Some may remember a couple weeks ago when I made a post about titling a car in Ohio that is bought in Florida. Well that was in anticipation of a future purchase of an '88 CRX-si in Florida. I've had 4 CRX's before this, and the GRM article comparing the CRX to the CRZ got the juices flowing for another one (Thanks a lot GRM!!).
Tom Heath was kind enough to look at the car for me and gave it a thumbs up, so I flew down to Orlando and drove it back to Ohio.
It's an 88 with 140k on it. It's a two owner car with the first owner being the uncle of the second owner. It was represented as having original paint, but while it looks pretty much like a factory job, it had been resprayed at some point and there was accident repair on the right quarter panel. It's not a problem because it was repaired correctly and you could only tell from the hatch jam. It's got a DC header, HKS exhaust, K&N intake, new Tokico shocks with Tein springs, Poly bushings, and a Clifford alarm. The wheels on it in the pictures aren't the wheels it came with. It actually had on it 15"x7" five spoke Honda wheels. He said they were a dealer accessory in '88. You may know that CRX-si's came with 14" wheels standard. I bought a '91 brand new and there were no 15" alternatives offered then. Anyone know anything about that?
Anyway, here's some fairly crappy pictures of it below. What do you guys think?
Looks pretty damn nice. I have been looking at X's lately myself.
How much lighter is your wallet, if you don't mind my asking.
i cant remember the last time i saw a rust free crx except at the challenge. probably never up here in MA
Sweet! That would look nice next to my black civic.
Here is the 1988 Crx brochure. If you scroll through, you can see a small pic with the 4 sets of optional wheels and the louver I was telling you about:

I didn't feel too bad when mine drove off after I sold it. Then you buy this....thanks.
very nice score, and it's so nice to see the survivor crx's in good hands.
what's your plan with this one?
Wow that thing is clean! Nice score!
I don't think there were any 15's available, and certainly not 15x7. In fact, I'm not sure if Honda has ever made a 15x7.

I'm not sure. Originally I needed a car that got good gas mileage to commute in. I looked at a bunch of boring cars that I couldn't see myself driving, and then remembered my '91 CRX-si that routinely got 38+mpg on the freeway. So I set out to look for a CRX driver.
I found this, but it's so clean I don't know if I can drive it year round, but I also can't have another car that doesn't serve a purpose other than fulfilling my automotive porn fantasies. The searching process just kind of evolved from looking for a high mpg winter beater to a car I now think I may not be able to drive in the winter. Problem is, I already have too many cars like that.
I think I'll drive it, but on bad days in the winter I'll take my truck. It's either that or my wife (who really is very understanding) will make me sell it and get something I can drive. Any suggestions???

Mine are none of those. I'll post a picture of one of them tomorrow.

Nice car!
Even the left-side seat bloster is in great condition. That's even more rare than finding a CRX in good shape.

Here's a suggestion. Trade it for a sweet Cherokee 4x4 that would plow through any snowstorm. She would love it!
Very nice. Looks to be in fantastic shape.
In reply to oldsaw:
Yeah, that really surprised me too! I've had a few of this gen Civic/CRX si, so I know about the seat bolster, but it's almost like new.
In reply to Fletch1:
Sorry, I already have a REAL truck.
That CRX is pretty damn nice looking. Great score! Like WilberM3 said, it's almost impossible to find a CRX in Mass. that isn't rusty, ricey, or both. I did see a 1st gen. CRX Si that was nearly rust free a couple of weeks ago...

Here's my other suggestion. Drive it until they start spreading salt, then store it and drive your truck. In the meantime, try selling the TVR. After that, patiently wait until spring then drive the daylights out of it.
In reply to bravenrace:
If you can't figure out what to do, you could sell it to me...
