I was expecting a smooth radius transition between highways, but nope, the highway veered off at an angle. And there was a curb.
Since it took a chunk out of the sidewall, I already plan to buy a new tire. What say GRM, get a new wheel as well? How about an alignment? This set of tires only has less than 3 months and probably 3,000 miles on them, so I'm not too worried about different tread depths. I'll just keep rotating the left side, and allow the new tire to stay up front on the right side until they all even out.

That wheel looks fine, I wouldn't worry about it unless its some cheap aftermarket cast wheel. Most low profile tires have a lot of extra rubber in the sidewalls(to aid in not curb rashing the wheel), if you can't see cords or bubbling, I probably wouldn't worry enough to warrant immediate replacement.
If it still drives correctly I wouldnt worry about alignment either, I've properly killed tires before(ripped a hole in the sidewall) and found the alignment still OK.
The wheel is an OEM model, and it does not "look" deformed; it just looks like the rim is scraped up. The car is already so beat up that a scratched wheel doesn't bother me. I decided to buy a new tire, just because vibrations at freeway speed suggest that it's now out of balance anyway. Or, maybe I was just hypersensitive or on a bad road.
Wheel is definitely ok then, I once got hit in the right front corner dead on the wheel, so hard the tire was jammed into the frame horn, only good parts on that corner were the control arm and wheel. Factory alloys are stupid strong.
Mighty Car Mods can help you with that wheel.
How To Repair Scratched & Guttered Wheels
Update! No damage to the wheel, new tire cured ugly vibration, and an alignment has it tracking straight. $10 labor to change the tire and $40 for an alignment. Not bad.

You know if an alignment fixes a problem caused by an impact, it means something got bent.
BTW I've damaged rims far worse by just touching curbs slightly while parking, so I hate you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Earlier this year I got into a weird traffic situation that made me feel like I needed to turn in sooner than I had planned (turning right by a high right-angle curb, narrow street downtown, car coming the opposite way much faster than I had anticipated) - scrunch! I felt like a fool for days. Although I was just trying to avoid and accident I had a hard time getting over it.
I was all like, "Andy Hollis would never do this!" ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
I refer to that Vortex/Car lounge thread frequently and get strange looks, I'm glad I'm not the only one to recall and reference it.

Well,
As long as something is only bent a little bit...

I felt the same way. Partially because at the very moment it happened, I was thinking, "gee, how I love driving," and was looking forward to driving the canyons the next day.
Wow, guys, last time I mentioned fents and crubs here, nobody knew what the hell I was talking about, so i figured that it was just Internet lore that has gone down into obscurity.
Now I wonder how many people would understand "moneys can buy a head of the neck" or "i shift mad quick yo"
(and now re-thinking the vanity plate for the GTI: "2 FENTS")

In reply to Knurled: No, you should totally do the vanity plate as such. WINNING.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Funny: When I started to type "fents", Google recommended "crub fents burshes" as a search term.
Cripes that thread is ten years old this week!

I read the first page over at the vortex and I feel dumber already. Couldn't go on to even page two of that mess. Hoping I can continue to avoid hitting crubs, fents, burshes, bricks and trash cans.

A true legend in vortex lore! I sometimes think to bring up this or something from Honda-tech and then I remember that normal people don't know anything about these things. LOL

All the broken HTML didn't help. I only got to page 2, but I was surprised to see that by that point it was already a 6-year-old zombie thread. Thanks for the enlightening link.
