I've searched on here and have read some good info on the OM606 in general. But haven't seen much breaking off to look at specifically the NA OM606.

What does it take to add a turbo to these?

Once turbo is on what are the power levels you can get to safely on the stock injection pump?

What about with the upgraded pump?

No idea on the NA but here is a turbo OM606 donor up for auction.

They have weaker rods and lack oil squirters compared to the Turbo version. I've read claims of 300hp on +turbo builds but not sure I'd push the stock rods that far.

I think the NA versions were missing some of the turbo goodies.  Not sure if you can add them (like oil squirters) but IIRC they're a whole different block casting number.  Whether or not that means an actually different block is another story.

Turbo, though... they are the 2JZ of the diesel world.  550 hp/650 lbft is a walk in the park.... and expensive park, but easily done with a fat wallet.  I'm told that rods become the weak link at around 750 lb ft.

Video for inspiration:

That is tempting. Maybe a good thing I wouldn't be able to pick it up in the window they are offering pick ups.

hold up. So you're saying a 500whp diesel wagon is relatively cheaply attained? I might faint in my seat

In reply to calteg :

Not cheaply, but easily attained.  Unless you know how to mod the pump yourself, the pump alone to support 500 hp is about $1600.  Then add bigger turbo... which isn't exactly cheap because most of the OM606s had the turbine housing cast integral to the manifold.  That means you're in custom territory unlike if you had a T3 flange that you could DIY nearly any turbo on.

This is why I wondered about the NA version:

The aftermarket om606 exhaust manifolds aren't THAT expensive lol. But not cheap either. Certainly someone here should do one.

I don't think my friend Matt built that, but it's a maybe. He's MB diesel swapped a few old Fords.

I've never heard of a Turbo OM606 with an integral exhaust housing. They use KKK pattern exhaust manifolds from what I've read.

I've known Matt  for about 8 years through Lemons. He has raced with us a few times and was instrumental in 606 swapping our w123 racecar.
