There cutting of roof off now.
Actually I am got sure they cut the roof off. But it looks like the driver Brad Smith is walking away.
Just saw the Motorsport.com article pop up in my Facebook feed. That hit off the infield wall was nasty, I can't believe he walked under his own power after that.
He climbed out of the car at least and got on the gurny. He was sitting up and waving to the crowd as they put him in the ambulance.
Just amazing. I thought he was going to be seriously damaged.
People are shocked when a racer dies. I'm shocked that more of us don't. Safety items, and a bit of luck, should never be overlooked.
They actually showed it on the 11 o'clock news last night, which is pretty rare. Anyhow, very nasty hit. Reminded me of the Earnhardt hit, and probably would have been just as fatal 10-15 years ago.

It seems he hit the wall at enough of an angle to reasonably glance off it without losing much speed. As the saying goes, "it ain't the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop" and he was fortunate enough to take awhile to stop. I'm sure it was still a hard hit and he'll be sore for awhile. His HANS device and wrap-around seat did their job if he walked away from that.
That second hit looked a lot like the Kyle Busch hit from Daytona this year. Smith was lucky there was SAFER barrier there.
Watching Busch's hit live was scary--it had the look of the kind of crash drivers don't walk away from.

To me it looked like no steering and a hung accelerator
