I got zero response from my miataforum post, so I will put it to you, my favorite Miata nuts.
I have a '91 with the factory air conditioning removed. I still have the AC button and I think there are a few parts left, I still need to catalog everything that is now missing.
I want to know whether a complete AC system removed from a '99 will install as-expected into my old '91. I think I am just getting too old to put up with these 600% humidity 184 degree summer days. Gotta have AC. So it's either a couple hundred bucks to buy a system removed from another car or a few grand to pick up another Miata with air conditioning.
Should I be able to put a later AC system into my '91?

Thanks!

Don't know about that, but you should be able to buy a new AC from mazdaspeed or other used/discount sources for your specific year.
And more info on your 99 AC? I have a 99 and the AC is also busted.
Your '91 will be an R-12 system and the '99 a 134-a system. That's okay, but some of the components are going to differ. Sorry, I don't know anything about Miata A/C, but if you have any general A/C questions while doing the swap, let me know. It's what I do.
I'm most likely going to pull the A/C system out of my 96 if you're interested.
I still need to go through and figure out what is still there. If I get a complete system from the donor, I will just replace everything with the 134 system.
