So the miata shares a platform w the rx8. Rotary cars and miatas always have/had some sort of Frankenstein relationship when it comes to drivetrain parts interchangeability. Rumor has it the ND tailshaft will bolt onto s1 rx8 (maybe even s2) gearbox and with that it will move the shifter ~3" rearward in car which will allow me to use an rx8 transmission in the fc chassis without having to cut the floor otherwise the hand would hit the cassette player and that is no bueno.

Anyone have some quality photos of one taken apart and/or can measure the dimensions of the shift shaft?  If it is longer and will fit where this existing shaft goes i may be able to modify the shifter housing to accomdodate this or actually swap tail shafts and get my shifter in the right location.

Long story short I want to 6 speed swap my 10ae because it needs a clutch so I can basically do this swap w spare parts "while I'm in there" sorta thing and I don't want to hear the keep it original rhetoric! Mostly because its too late for that...

I think you are talking about the NC miata chassis.   That is the one shared with the RX-8.  The ND is the newest miata.

In reply to moxnix :

You are exactly right. NC shares with RX8 not the ND.
