That's one of those cars that you can't not-buy, if you're within an hour or two each way.

Keep yer fingers crossed peeples.
I just talked to the guy. Going to see the car at 5 today.
Story so far - car was bought by Josh about 5 years ago for $3k. Josh is not an all-out car guy but really liked the Starlet. He bought it from a car finance guy who had just done all the seals and service work on it. Minor rust but no perforations and no frame rust (we'll see.) Car has been driven once weekly for bast couple years as Josh didn't want to drive it on his 25 mile commute. Works 60 hrs/week, no time to mess with it. About 6 months ago someone jimmied the passenger door and stole the battery, but it has since been replaces. Due to the break in, there is some moisture inside and the seats need cleaned. Also needs wipers and needs tires before long. these are the reasons he's not asking $3k
He would really like to sell it to another car guy that will treat it right.
okay, so are there any specific things I should look for on this - danger areas? Rust, I know, but anything specific? My first car was an 82 Corolla, so I'm familiar with the general idea, but is there anything native to the Starlet body or the 1.3L?
Damn damn DAMN. The seller just called and told me the first guy that called him is offering $1800 sight-unseen. He seems like a nice guy, young family, etc, so I took myself out of the running and told him what he had. I told him to take that $1800 or a lot more if he could get it because the car is a rare, rare piece.
He still said if it fell through he'd call me, but even if he does, I'm in no place to come off more than the $1200.
Oh well, probably for the best.

Well, either some guy really did offer him 1800 cash for it, or the guy is trying to milk it. Either way- it's probably for the best.

I'm not surprised someone would offer $1800 sight unseen. They could still flip it for a decent profit at that price.
This is a classic case of where the car should be ebay'ed. Hard to set a price on the car and national exposure would drive the price up. I really believe that someone with more dollars than sense would throw $3k at that.
Yeah, I was planning to fix the small items, drive it a couple months and flip it. In that kind of shape a survivor is a 3k car all day. It would be a good one to sit on for about 5 years as the values climb. All of which I told the guy. If I can't get it cheap then he should get what it's worth
