Backup cameras make this a snap, IMO. I pull forward until I can just see the garage door tracks on the edge of the picture.

This is a timely thread... I keep threatening SWMBO with a tennis ball hung from the ceiling, as she doesn't do a good job of gauging when the back end of her car is through the garage door. So instead, she usually just pulls forward until she's within a few inches of whatever is in front of her spot in the garage at the time, even if that means there's 5 feet of space behind her car. And a few times, there's been a cardboard box sitting between her spot and something behind it (like the Jeep), so the box has gotten hit lightly before she stopped.
For perspective, the basic parking layout looks like this, although typically with more stuff around the garage.
I've never understood as cars have become larger they don't seem to build garages any larger.
Although David, that's a decent size, we could never get even 3 small cars in our garage.

To be fair cars becoming larger is a relatively recent phenomenon, from the 60s to late-90s they were getting smaller.

A lot of people also use their garages for literally anything and everything except cars, so they don't necessarily care. I can't count how often I see a house with a 1 or 2 car garage that's either completely full of stuff, used as hang-out space, or used as a non-car workshop for something, and the cars are all outside. In many cases, the garage is literally just storage and hasn't had a car in it in years.
I built a T out of scrap 2x4, with the long arm of the T placed against the wall and the short arm in the position of the front edge of the right front tire. This for the side of my short garage where I park the Corvette, which has lousy front vision. The long arm provides correct positioning, so that's not a problem, and the device cost me nothing,
I parked “short” the other day and noticed that my parking stop had moved as it didn’t line up with my reference marks.
I thought of you all here as I backed up and repositioned the parking stop.

Kinda related to that, our house was built in 1977 with a 21x21 garage. Our 1975 Catalina Safari measured 19.25 feet long.
I have the original plans for our house, and they show a note to make the garage a little bigger than planned. Thank you, whoever made that call.
