I'd like to find a wrecked e46 M3 for a potential project. I checked Copart, as that's the only place I know of to find such an item. Given the infinite wisdom this group has, I'm certain there are better options. Can someone help me find one?
Color is a non-issue, as is coupe or convertible. I need the motor, transmission, ECU and gauge cluster. Everything else on the car gets sold to help recoup my spend.
Go!
EDIT: I'd keep a few other things too (radiator, expansion tank, etc)
Sometimes, ebay may have a few wrecked cars you can buy.

Checked there. Not much to offer right now. I'd love to find one relatively nearby, for transportation considerations (I'm in FL).
What about possibly buying each part seperate from car-part.com?

Definitely an option. Based on what they're charging for an s54 and associated 6 speed, I think I'd come out way ahead by parting out a wreck.
Hate to say it but I have seen many wrecked/parted out cars for sale on CL. Just a thought.
I hate to say it but those types of cars get scooped up quick.
Agreed. That's why I need the GRM hive looking for me!
If anyone sees one, please let me know. I can move quickly.

I'm not well versed in the chassis codes of BMW's, but a co-worker of mine recently had her 97 low mileage M3 sedan wrecked by a wayward flat bed tow truck that was left in gear. I believe it was totaled, as she now has a 2013 Hemi Challenger R/T. The BMW was a rare bird in that I looked up the production numbers of Techno Violet M3 sedans with the black interior, and something like only 55 were ever made. Hers was one of them. It had lots of aftermarket stuff on it as well from the previous owner. It was a sad day to see the car all smashed up as I really liked it. I can try to find out where it is now, but chances are I won't be able to.

1997 is an E36. 1999-2005 is an E46. Sorry about your friend's loss, though.
I think insurance auctions will be your best chance.

LOL on the Viper. Nothing crazy. Planning to drop it into an e46 sedan, seeing as how BMW, in the infinite wisdom, chose not to produce an official M3 sedan in the e46 range.

That is a rare bird. It would definitely be worth you trying to track it down and seeing if you could buy it. Even with a rebuilt title, it would be worth money. Not everyone loves techno violet, but some folks love it.

Where do I find these? Do I need to find someone with a dealer license?

Here is one that has several locations around the country.
www.iaai.com
The local yard has a sign out front that states they are open to the public.

I have one. It was a friend's.A coupe that was perfect before he hit a wall at an HPDE. I can palletize the drivetrain etc or you can have the whole car as it sits now.

Technoviolet and Dakar are the two best E36 M3 colors.

Once again GRM to the rescue.

Different strokes for different folks. Absolutely my 2 LEAST favorite BMW shades!
