I've got a nephew that's going out to Aqua Dulce (~1 hour north of LA) to look at some tanks that he's interested in purchasing, and would like to get some assistance in inspecting them. I know my knowledge does not extend far enough to deal with that, so I thought I'd ask here & see if anyone had any suggestions. He's happy to pay for your time and expense, just want someone that can really check them out and advise knowledgably. Heck, if we've got any tank mechanics out there, he'd probably be happy to fly you there if you're not close by. Drop me an e-mail, hoserracing (at) gmail (dot) com Thanks!
Tank like war or tank like water?
Tank like war :) Looking at a project that calls for a tank or two to play with. Figure I'll help him out so that maybe I'll get to play with them as well!
What kind of tank?
There is a show on TV (don't recall which channel) that shows old tanks being re-furbed. One of the guys on the show lives in AZ but works for some dude in CA that has a tank colelction. Look them up.
EDIT for research
Tank Overhaul on the Militrary Channel.
Jacques Littlefield was the guy in CA that had the collection (300 pieces) and he died last year.
Here's a thread on corner-carvers from a guy who works at the Military Vehicle Technology Foundation - they restore tanks and stuff for their museum. He might be able to help you out, or point you to someone who can.

Thanks guys! I'll pass this along.
I have a friend who restored a half track that would be good to look at that kind of stuff. He's single and always looking to check stuff like that out. I can give you his info if you'd like.
is the tank market so abundant that you can "pass" on a tank or that you as the buyer have much control over pricing?
Thanks bluesideup, send me his info if you don't mind. I tried signing up on Corner Carvers, not exactly an easy site to register on. They don't accept gmail addresses , and they'll approve your registration when they feel like it
nocones - better to wait & see what else shows up than to buy something that's worthless or needs so much as to be worthless, then transport it from CA to GA and also pay to get it repaired.
I just sent my friend's info to your email.
Not sure to be honest, my nephew just knows that I'm a car nut / wrench monkey, and that I'm all over the place with things that I like to fool with, I figured GRM was a great place to find random knowledge
Tank tug-o-war pictures, tell your nephew to take a few during the test drive.

IP trace shows origins in Pakistan...
Took me a minute to get that! Too funny Glad to see I'm not the only one with a warped sense of humor. Hey, does anyone on Corner Carvers mind getting me the contact info on the guy in the thread listed above? I've jumped through the hoops to sign on, and then get the message that they only add the requests about once a month. Thanks for the help!

Real tanks or Airsoft tanks?
Real tanks, the kind you'd REALLY like to get out and drive

I used to have a Corner-Carvers login but it was linked to an old work email and I forgot my username and password after a few months of not going there. I've never bothered signing up again because of the hoops, and because I'm fine with just lurking there. Anyways, can you contact the guy through his youtube account? They have PMs there.
