Hey!

I'm trying to build a Frankenstein drift car out of an old BMW E30 325e. The car doesn't have an engine in it, and I have a 2005 Honda Pilot sitting right next to it. The pilot has a 3.5L V6 and I'm going to try dropping it into the E30.

The problem with this is that the Honda motor is designed to be mounted in a FWD or AWD setup, putting it in the engine bay transversely. I need it to go into the engine bay of the E30 longitudinally for a RWD setup. I know for a fact that the J35A6 used in the Pilot spins the correct direction.

Does anyone know of any RWD transmissions that can bolt to the J35A6 Honda motor or do I need to fabricate an adapter plate?

Have you looked into Oil issues with rotating the motor??

unless you really like that motor, I think you would save more in headaches by putting an sr20, s52/4, ls, etc in there than you would save in $$ by using that motor.

That being said, I’d love to see you do it!

What would happen with the oil system by turning it?

It's honestly just a fun project that would be super duper cool to pull off haha. Imagine pulling up to a drift event with a BMW that has a Honda engine in it that was designed for AWD uses.

If i do have to make an adapter plate, any ideas on what transmissions are good options for drifting?

There's a kit out there to adapt that motor to a Miata, maybe take a look at it.  Obviously it won't drop in (plus it's expensive), but might offer some ideas and maybe they'll sell you individual parts if they're useful.

If you go this route, I would look at the Miata 6-speed. The J-series is right at the power level where the Miata 5-speed starts getting marginal.

Inline-Pro also makes a kit to adapt the Honda J V6 to the S2000 transmission that costs $500. And I'm seeing AP1 S2000 gearboxes on eBay for $500

Thank you guys! I didn't know about those adapter plates but i think that's what i'm looking for. Do all of Honda's J engines use the same bolt pattern?
