I have a 2008 GMC Acadia. The tail light always seemed to have had condensation in it, then I noticed something like 2” of water. I took the thing off the car to drain it and noticed that the plug was covered in black goo. I used some aersol contact cleaner and when I went to wipe it down, one of the pins on the tail light LED broke off flush with the housing.

Bought a new tail light assy (not GMC) and the running light dosnt work. I pluged it into the other side and it works, so I looked and the female plug on the car wiring harness is meesed. The same pin that fell out of the light assy is missing the pin inside the plug. The wire is still attached, I tried to rig it bytaking a 1.5” of wire, removing the insulator and shoving it in the plug to try to complete the connection. Didn’t work.

I went to two autopart stores loking for either a replacement plug or a tool to remove the wire and add another one. Both said “no luck – try the dealership”.

Delaership said “no luch, we don’t sell that, try a autoparts store or buy a new car”. I asked a technition at the parts counter and showed him the pic, he sugested I look on line for the part.

I cant find that part on line.

What to do? I cant figure out how to fix the plug. The pins on the light are to recessed to easily solder wires to, and I suck as soldering.

Any advise??

That's weird that your dealership couldn't get you a pigtail with the harness end. They should be able to. I know at the dealership I work for, I order connector pigtails all the time.

If I understand the situation correctly, and the harness connector had a pin removed, you'll need to disassemble the connector, repin the damaged wire, and reassemble it.

This vid gives a decent overview of the process

Domestic cars are common in junkyards. Have one cut the connector off about 3" down from the plug, then cut yours off and wire the new one in.

CURT #56056 trailer harness has that connector:

Look on Rock Auto, they sell a lot of harness pigtails.

I didn't see anything on Rock Auto or other big parts retailers pages. I have not been to a junk yard in 20+ years, and I guess that my luck would be similar to when I go to swap meets and either cant find squat or buy something to only find out when I get home that it doesn't fit.

I sent some emails to people who are parting out Acadias on eBay asking if they would have it.

That Curt part above looks promising. Almost $30 is steep, but I can use the other connectors on a motorcycle wiring harness that I am messing with.

thanks!
