Oh yeah, I've made 10-minute videos of my car and to produce something halfway presentable, an hour a minute in "post" is about right. The recording is the easy part.

Bad Obsession is obviously a race shop first and a YouTube channel second. But it's a great promotional tool that brings in a few bucks. They're definitely not trying to milk the views, the long, infrequent videos are totally the wrong way to do that. But as documentation of a side build project, it's exactly what you'd expect.
What the YouTube project has probably done is allowed them to spend more on things like the engine rebuild and the paint. The early days were more budget oriented.

The guys know minis, and the color is a proper colour for the heritage of the shell. It's interesting that there's absolutely no nod to the drivetrain donor.

It's definitely a proper color. Coincidentally, the guy who bought my wrecked Mini is changing it from the red w/ black roof to white w/ black roof as from his digging that was the original color of the car. He is in the restoration world where originality is king - at least as far as originality can go with a 57 year old Mini (that may not have the original shell).

I am picturing a skin of original white paint being slipped over a replacement shell, now. Like re-skinning a sausage
Red with black roof, white with black roof? My gut feeling is "why would you do that, the sun would kill you in the summer". I assume that the sun occasionally visits England every now and then.

Never said anything about proper. I'm just not a fan of creamy white colours.

Because the factory competition cars had black roofs.
I love it, the subtle graphics are stunning. They could've gone over the top to make the details pop in a thumbnail and on video but went with understated. In the flesh that thing must be stunning.
I think that really fits the rest of the build too, so much time and energy has been spent to do everything in such a way that when it's done it almost disappears into the complete package and the paint is no different.
As someone who just finished painting a car, I literally rewinded the sanding parts of the video. I'll probably go back and watch it again just for the sanding and spraying footage. Looking for technique, hand motion, ergonomics, part positioning.. all those minutia of tasks being done by a master professional and captured by the production quality of a modern successful youtube channel...truly rare and valuable to the hobbyist.
This highly-technical content is what I wish I could find more of on youtube. Not the regurgitated "I just bought my dream car and its just like last month's dream car".
I was so happy to see Nick just run his finger over the seam sealer like I do. I had him for a masking tape your seam sealer kind of guy.

The scene where the painter (Thom?) ghosts on the pinstripes kills me. It is almost offhanded.
I'm unsure about the roof (though I absolutely endorse theirs-and-everybody's right to tell me to stuff it), but I dig the overall scheme and the touches on the sides.
And as usual, it was awesome to watch. I need to start bringing a notepad when I sit down to them or Retropower.
