I recently saw a DMC-12 painted red. The thought of it seem sacrilegious, but the car looked great.

I can't decide whether that's evil or the most appropriate thing ever.

I saw this and thought, this is so ridiculous, it would be good for a Delorean Thread that would pop up
Maybe if I had a DMC-12, I'd put in a WRX STI engine, and a sort-of modified subaru symmetrical AWD system. Turbo AWD DELOREAN donuts!
Didn't they paint a certain number of them a rather atrocious shade of yellow at some point? Mid-80's pimp caddy yellow?

I don't think they ever painted any - John Z. wouldn't have stood for it - but there were two one-offs (one two-off?) that left the factory gold plated. Bling bling, bizznaches.
I may have seen that red DMC. Are you in Illinois?
When I saw it, the first thing I thought was body damage. Thus paint.
The story I read somewhere was that they painted some at the end of the run in an effort to make them appealing to a wider audience and get them sold.
Hrm. Google reveals red, yellow, and black. But it wasn't nearly the pastel yellow I had thought. I shall have to dig more.

But probably not this black

I saw it and thought that many, many photos we post here should be in front of a backdrop that says "WE CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE."

This might be stating the beyond obvious here, but we all have it figured out what the character that owns it is into. If you remember from the end of the first movie, the wheels sucked up into the wheel wells of the car in mid air, and folded under prior to said vehicle shooting off into the future. (which strangely, isn't that far away, and I don't have my hoverboard yet dammit. Thank you Mattel, for Hotwheels, but I want a floating skateboard already) Could this be an attempt, however misguided, to make it seem as though the vehicle is in preparation for time travel?
Hmm I really like that black one. Except for those yellow seats and interior panels, they would have to go.
The matte black works really well, but the stock wheels seem to look better than all of the aftermarket ones shown in the thread. The Delorean needs some sidewall.
I seem to recall reading that one of the main selling points of the car was also it's main turnoff to most people.. the stainless steel sheeting. Some people do like to wash and wax their cars, and SS does not care for wax.
I have also wondered how much weight you could save pulling the SS off and just cleaning up the glassfibre beneath it
Back when these were new, a neighbor had a red one. The story I heard at the time was that they only made three of them in red. John D had one, Johnny Carson had another and my neighbor had the third. That may have been a bunch of crap, but he owned so many other insanely cool cars at the time, it may also have been accurate.
That being said, there are better color choices for that car.
Hey Gamby, what's up?

but you posted a picture of a car withe the license plate "T1MELES". ?
IIRC, back when I was an SCCA Corner Worker, the DeLorean Owners Club had a corral at the Mitty. They all swore that Windex window cleaner was the easiest way to keep the stainless clean. A couple o' folks also said they carried Windex and paper towels whenever they took it out in public. They'd park, and when they came back, it would be covered in fingerprints. People just can't seem to resist touching it.
They also told me the owners' club was called "D.O.A." on purpose...
