Fiesta ST!
New FiST will rock a 1.5L triple. I'm intrigued, should sound cool and differentiate it from all the turbo I4s out there. It seems the chassis is unchanged so relatively small changes overall. Still only has an electronic diff. Also going to 18" wheels, must be a taller tire as the current 17s are rubberbands as is. Thoughts?

What hasn't been confirmed is if the US will be getting this engine too, or if the American version of the Fiesta will have something else. We'd find it hard to believe that Ford wouldn't bring the 1.5 our way in the ST, but it could happen.
Then also...

Like the last car, it will be offered in three- and five-door variants.
To me these two statements seem like contradiction.
All photos shown are of a 2 door that we do not get in the US but the author completely missed any statement of weather the US will get the 2 door variant or not while he makes a major speculation to the US engine offering.

197hp from a 1.5L 3-cylinder? Wow, that's a stout little motor.
It's only 0.1L smaller than the outgoing 4 banger which has similar power. Not a significant change in specific output.
I'd love to try one!
that 3 cylinder should make very fun noises, but i want to see it in...
It's time for Ford to make and sell an Ariel fighter on a low volume as a track toy and to support a spec series as a support race for Tudor or IRL. With Lotus out of the states it makes sense and Lotus owners would enjoy the benefit of owning a toy with a dealer support and parts distribution network, even though everything that isn't engine related would need to be ordered from the facing warehouse and would be 2-3 days out.
If Ford offers the engine and supporting electronics package as crate motors for use in aftermarket applications I will be happy.....and surprised.
Forget the motor, I want that 2 door!!!
I have the 1.0L version and a crate engine would be great! These things are so small. It would fit in damn near anything. Want a 200 hp Midget, Done!
looks like a "3 door" to me.. or at least a 2 door with a hatch.
Wow, that 2-door (or 3-door, whatever the berk you call it) is handsome!

Bwahah!!! That's better than most Ken Block vids!
I'd take the regular stock 4 cyl if I could get it in a 3 door. Also I want those wheels

Meh, old news! Mini's 3cyl is good enough for a 6-figure BMW i8!

So it's barely faster than a bureaucrat on a bicycle. Sounds about right for a 3 cylinder Ford.

The Ford motor may be wonderful, but I have a fundamental aversion to the thought of owning a 3-cylinder car.
So is it just a stroked 1.0? That would make it torquey but you'd lose the revs of what has already been reported as an engine that didn't like to rev.
I love the concept, especially if we can get it standalone, but I don't like low revving torquers.

You could look at it like that, or you could say that it is the same airflow through 3/4 as many valves, or you could say that it is 33% more force on the rods (I am assuming, given similar displacement and max HP, that peak torque is roughly the same)
So, yeah, stout motor.

Maybe, but they look like a PITA to live with. Long doors like that mean difficult to get in and out in a parking spot. 4/5-door Fiestas are already kind of difficult to get out of if the parking spaces are tight enough that you can't open the door all the way, a 3 door with doors that huge would well and truly suck.
Might be okay if you're the kind of person who just slams the door open against the car next to you. I can see aesthetics taking precedence over practicality in that respect.
I find the 4/5 door more useful. After owning 2 doors for years, the extra door makes accessing the rear seat so much easier.
I think the desire of 2 vs 4 is more esthetic than practical.

the 1.5l 3cyl is going to go into a LOT of other cars, which is why it exists to go into the Fiesta in the first place.

I hate reaching ridiculously far back for the seatbelt.
Listen to what a Triumph Triple (motorcycle) sounds like and then get back to us.
