sliding door would limit how wide a tire you could stuff on the back.

so get a piano hinge and gullwing it.

Karl, I actually think that's one of the cleanest things you've ever dragged home. I see a little rust, but not much!

are they on the same frame as a similar jeep? I was thinking that body on a regular CJ frame would be a lot of fun for winter commuting

Nice! A friend of mine bought one at auction many moons ago, that one had the old Chevy II 4 cylinder with a Powerglide. Slow as February molasses! He got it in his head that since it said 'Jeep' on it that meant it would go anywhere. He was at a local area known as 'the Rapids' when he decided to drive down to the river itself. (Yes, alcohol was involved.) The hill is maybe 150 feet tall, about halfway down he panicked, jammed on the brakes, it slid for a while, then got sideways and rolled the last 50 feet or so to the bottom. It busted out all the glass and laid the roof over at about 20 degrees.

Sounds like you need the 4.0, AX15, Dana30/35 axles, and NP231 transfer case sitting in my Cherokee.

Get a number roundel and put 59 on each door and some GRM stickers and drop a good modern 4/6 cyl under the hood and use it as the badassest parts runner/light duty tow rig ever!

We picked one of them up in college years back for $50 and bombed it through the woods for a semester. Mud, jumps, boulders, trees...you name it, we blasted through it, into it, over it or bounced off of it. Toughest vehicle I have ever had the priviledge of beating on.

My Dad was a letter carrier and drove one daily. They are horrible. They are designed to do absolutely nothing but go slowly from mailbox to mailbox. Handling is vicious, performance is non-existent, and best of all they share virtually zero parts with a CJ. Don't bother trying to order an exhaust system for one; it won't fit.

It's cute, and a great conversation piece, and you can probably sell it to a rural mail carrier for a profit. Thus ends the upsides.
