My 16 y.o. has lost a key to his Acura. Does anyone know where else I can get one programmed besides the dealer. I called the local locksmith and he said dealer only. Local Honda dealer says they won't do it. I don't want to drive to Detroit to raped by the Acura Dealer.

I'm confused. How do you plan to drive it to Detroit if he's lost the key?
If you have a good working key, any smithy should be able to make a key, and to program the fob, just go to youtube.
If you have one key, you probably could perform the reprogram yourself. If you have no keys, dealership is the only source.

Sorry for the confusion. I still have one of the 2 keys. I want to get a second before he loses it. According the my looking so far I have not seen a method to reprogram myself.
I don't know about Acura, but when I needed another key for my Corvette, my parts guy at the dealership was able to provide it reasonably. Had I gone to the service department instead, they would have opened a service order and the cost would have gone way up.
I guess we all miss the days when our car keys could be duplicated for pocket change, like house keys, at the nearest hardware store or home improvement center.
The key is chipped. Depending on year will determine if there are aftermarket keys that can be done cheaply. the 99-03 there was one that could be copied off of an existing key. 04-06 no, but the 07/08 switchblade did.
Just getting one cut will allow you to access the car but if I recall correctly you won't be able to start the car because of the immobilizer system/key setup. If you just get a new fob cut you can reprogram the internals of the fob yourself. It's super easy if it's the newer style Honda key and not the switchblade.
Funny story. My lab destroyed one of my keys to the Fit. I went to the dealer I used to work at for a new one and the guy who used to write my service tried telling me I wouldn't be able to program it myself and that it's a complicated process that only techs can do as if he never met me. I bet him lunch/$20 on it and walked away with $40 by the end of it.
