I was in Denver recently for a quick business trip, and managed to squeeze in a breakfast with an old friend while there who is also a car guy. We walked out to say goodbye and go our separate ways, and were greeted by this duo. The Boxster had us scratching our head. It was marked as a Boxster RS (badges on the rump, wheels, interior) but I cannot find any reference on the web to such a model. There are plenty of articles detailing a Boxster RS from 2008, with the same color scheme, but this is a brand new car, in the most current body style. Anyone here know anything about it?
Likely a dealer special. I haven't had anything like this cross my desk.
Google "Porsche Boxster RS 60 Spyder". Seems to be a limited edition in 2008.

That, or customer badge engineering, was my thought. I couldn't find any mention of a new Boxster RS from Porsche.
Official model from Porsche, my boss had one.
Per Wiki: In November 2007, Porsche announced a commemorative RS60 Spyder edition of the Boxster to celebrate Porsche's 1960 win in the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida.[6] Only 1960 units in this series are to be produced worldwide, with approximately 800 slated for the U.S. with each model bearing a numbered production badge on the dash. The RS60 Spyder comes in only GT Silver Metallic while the standard interior is Carrera Red leather, with dark gray leather as an option. The RS60 comes standard with 19 inch SportDesign alloy wheels, Porsche's Active Suspension Management System, and a sports exhaust that boosts the engine output to 303 PS (223 kW; 299 hp) . The base price for the RS60 Spyder is US$64,900.
In typical Porsche fashion, it was 10% better than the S model and 80% more expensive.

Not quite. The car you describe certainly did exist, but was a 987 chassis. The car I took a picture of last week is the new 981 chassis, introduced as a 2012 model.
Also has a new temporary plate by the looks of it.
Euro delivery model?

Ahhhhh, that does make quite a difference. In my old age, I can't tell one Boxters rear end from another anymore.

Agreed. Offered both, I'd take the 356 every time!!
Hmmm, I couldn't find out anything through my PCA contacts. This is very interesting!
