I just saw a video on FB from Flyin  Miata that shows an upcoming roll bar for the RF. Couldn’t tell if the top was still functional since the vid kept locking up. I could not get the video on here for some reason.

Video works for me, $550, available soon, SCCA approved and should be good for other organizations as well . Top cannot retract with it installed but they have modified it so the rear part opens up a bit so you can use the space where the roof would've gone as extra trunk space (Great idea!).

My question is would it be possible to make the roof panel manually removable like an old Porsche Targa?

Video worked for me, although I'm at work so no sound.  The top was raised up so you could see the bars in the cavity, but they didn't fully lower the roof.

I can't help but look at that and think that you could replace the flying buttress part and the trunk lid with a hatch. Somebody is going to do this eventually, right?

As to the roll bar, very cool. Good on FM for getting it done.

I'd like to see how they installed it.

You can read the instructions when they're available wink It's not too bad.

The top cannot be lowered, someone put a roll bar in the way of the mechanism. When the RF came out, people told us "We don't care if the top is fixed, we want a roll bar!" So we're calling their bluff.

The credit for the idea to have the buttress panel open up to give access to the secret trunk goes to the owner of this car. He wouldn't accept a disabled top, he wanted that storage. That forced us to come up with a way to open the top partway but prevent it from opening too far. Took a bit of experimentation but we have a very simple, idiotproof and reversible solution. It's a great idea.

I'll do a better video later, I was mostly just playing around with FB Live at the track and figured I'd give a sneak preview.

BTW, we need a better name for the new luggage space. Who's got one?
