Saw this today and snapped a quick photo. It was outside a church in my 'hood. I don't know the year, but it was well looked after.
That's a 1946-1948 model. If you look closely, there's a little pushbutton on the door that's used to open it. They didn't have regular door handles.
The seal on the vent windows isn't the correct year.
(do you know people like that? Where do they store all of that information in their brain?)
Cool car.
If memory serves, that model/color Lincoln can be seen in "The Godfather"...when Sonny gets killed at the toll booth. (Sorry if I spoiled the movie, but if you haven't seen it yet...well....)

LONG before lawyers and insurance companies got so much input into auto designs, parts of cars that should have been functional...weren't always useful. I've seen cars of this era with no rear-view mirrors (they were often dealer add-ons), mirrors mounted to the TOP edges of the driver's door (sort of like old pickup trucks), and mirrors mounted on fenders and thus nearly impossible to aim and see out of. But my guess is that some previous owner put the passenger side mirror on the door hinge to avoid making a hole in this beautiful car.

You just need a passenger to check for you :P
My father had one of those for a couple of years, in coupe form. Since dad couldn't change a spark plug if his life depended on it, regular maintanance fell on me, which is normally fine, but those things had flathead V12 engines with 2 distributors and a one barrel carb. Talk about a PIA to keep running!
I sure was glad when he sold it, but it did turn heads.

But they always had ashtrays.

That was back when it was ok to smoke in public. Now we have to hide in the garage at home and hope no one reports us for smoking within 500 miles of a child.
