Sounds like Duval is mostly OK (heard rumors of possible leg injury). Read that Audi has closed the garage door for the No. 1 car.

That's a bad way to start the race. I hope he recovers fully. The current Le Mans cars are amazingly fast and durable - and strong. Audi makes a big deal about their driver safety cell, but I wish they'd stop asking them to demonstrate it.

Yeah. Shots of the front of the car show it amazingly intact from what I can tell.

Well E36 M3, that looked like a hard hit. I read that Duval is awake and talking so that's a good sign at least.

So, after Audi gives Porsche the "we cause skid marks" jab, their car gets wrecked at Porsche Curves? Rich, the irony is.

Glad to hear the driver is alert and talking.

So will Audi have a backup car or is this team done for the weekend?

Word is they are building a replacement out of spare parts and won't be penalized for running a different car

According to the commentators, they are having a new chassis built by the supplier in Italy and hope to have it available for Saturday. Apparently, there is precedent for swapping chassis. It's also possible for them to appeal to shift around their drivers to other cars.

Yep, the most that has been used had to be by the Mercedes LMP1 team during the "Year of the backflips" Webber destroyed how many of those cars that year?

Also, glad to hear Duval is ok.......now back to rooting for anyone but Audi.

If they haven't actually qualified yet, I don't see why there would be a problem with them changing the car chassis. There are going to be a lot of late nights before the race though.

They also have several chassis for their cars.....in high and low downforce varieties. Unless they're fielding about 10 cars, they should have a spare lying around.
