On my way in to work this morning (drove the 2002 after a couple weeks of it being out of commission for new brakes and coolant hoses) the thought popped into my head that I own 3 cars with manual transmissions, but do not currently own a 5 speed. I have two 4 speeds and a 6 speed. I guess I need to remedy this situation. I have no more room for any more cars so, maybe I should start scrounging parts for a 5 speed conversion in the 2002.
5 speed in the Mini is cost prohibitive - 5 speed in the miata would be better than the 6 speed it has now, but I don't want to go that route.
I also do not own any 6 cylinder engines. I have 4 4 cylinder engines and a V8. I'd better stop this line of thinking.

My dad and I often go through what we have and have not had. We've done all the Japanese brands. None of the Koreans have interested us, so not worried about those. Still need to get a VW or Audi at some point. The Italians are a wholly unexplored. Haven't had a Corvette or a Mustang....
This could take a while. Good thing we turn over cars fairly quickly.
You go with what you know!
I was asked if I had a thing for red cars by a friend as he surveyed my yard.
He then went on to point out that of the 9 cars visible, 7 Fords, 1 mercury and 1 Mazda, my favorite seemed to be 1991, Ford, 4 cylinder, 5 speed, and red....of which I owned 5. If you took out the 1991 and red part it reaches 8 with the oddball 69 Mustang V8 auto (it is red though).
You never know what motivates you sometime!

I'm very happy with my current mix! 2 rotor, inline 6, V8; 3-Speed (Auto), 4-Speed (Auto), and 5-Speed (manual) though the engines and transmissions don't combine in that order. All of my cars are solid rear axle RWD though...
I have two straight-sixes right now. Might end up with a third if I pick up an F-150 with the 300 I6
Well...with that logic, you're also missing a 5 cylinder engine and a 3 speed tranny

I'm kinda down on both cylinder count and speed count.
4 vehicles, 17 speeds, 18 cylinders. 198? GLH with 4 cylinders, 5 speeds, '05 vagina-mobile (minivan), 6 cylinders 4 speeds, 74 mini, 4 cylinders, 4 speeds, 98 Forester, 4 cylinders 4 speeds. Only the mini and the Omni are manuals.
A few years ago I had 6 vehicles, 32 cylinders, and 23 speeds:
1986 CJ-7, 360 V8 with 3 speed auto
1986 CJ-7, 258 I6 with 4 speed auto
1964 CJ2a, 151 I4 with 3 speed manual
2000 Jeep WJ, 225 I6 with 4 speed auto
198? GLH 2.2L 4 with 5 speed manual
1974 mini 998 cc 4 banger with 4 speed manual
Those were the days (before kids). Man that was a lot of fun. Except the CJ2-A all those were licensed, registered and insured and driven regularly.
I've never owned a 5 cylinder, 3 cylinder, 10 or 12 cylinder or a 3-speed auto. Though I think I will remedy that V-10 missing one day......

I was thinking about this yesterday. And yesterday I did, in fact, pick up my first 5 cylinder - actually, my first odd-cylindered car; I have had motorcycles with singles. So now I have a front wheel drive turbo Volvo with an auto and a rear wheel drive turbo volvo with a 4+1.
I've had a 3 speed if you count automatics! Never a manual 3 speed though.
Everything I currently own that runs (3 cars) has a Ford V8 and powers the rear wheels via an 8.8" rear end with limited slip.
Discounting an FC I had for about 6 weeks, every single performance car I've had has either been a Ford or Toyota with mcpherson struts up front and a live axle rear, with redlines under 7k rpm. If I discount the Cobra, they've all had a single camshaft.
Sounds like it's about time I got a Miata.

Hmm, my current total is 25 cylinders and 30 speeds - that's counting my lawnmower (1 cylinder and 7 speeds).
2 FWD (mini and Honda Fit)(the fit is really my son's car, but in my name)
3 RWD (Miata, 2002, E-150 van)
Only 1 solid axle and only 1 limited slip.
Maybe I'll see if the GM Atlas 5 cylinder engine from a Colorado wil fit in the BMW. Still need a 6 - used to have a Wrangler with the 4.0L 6 and used to have a Mazda B4000 with a 6 (my father-in-law now owns it) ( it is the family truck - I was the first and 4th owner, father-in-law was the 2nd and 5th owner, brother-in law was the 3rd owner)
I have 12 cylinders and 15 speeds. WOOOOOO!!!!

I third the three speed thing - I loved mine.
I'm slacking here, 8 cylinders and 10 speeds
Would this be a bad time to mention that you can get a six speed gearbox for the classic Mini? Mind you, in order to keep my sanity intact I didn't check how much they are...
I have 4 cylinders and 5 speeds. I have also never driven an auto.
40 cylinders and 27 speeds, which pales in comparison to my father, who has over 60 cylinders just in diesels. He probably has just as many in gas motors, but I lose track, hahaha.

lemme think....
31 cylinders and 19 speeds, spread across two cars, two trucks (one of which is a 3 speed manual), a scooter, a motorcycle, a lawnmower, and a weedwacker.
I've never owned a v-6 powered vehicle, nor have I ever had anything with only a four speed manual. Never had the oddball three or five cylinder, either....come to think of it, with one exception (a straight six that got yanked for a V8) all my cars have been about evenly split between L4s and V8s.
EDIT: I take back the no V-6 thing. I did own a Toyota truck with a blown up 3.0 and a rolled 4-runner with a good 3.0, both of which I sold mid-project. Story of my life.
Now that you mention it, both my wife's and my daily drivers are silver 4-door, 4 cylinder automatics.
Both of my current project cars (87 Firebird challenge car, and 28 Chevy) are blue, and they are the only blue cars I've ever owned.
Dang, I have 10 cylinders and 16 speeds

E36 M3 will solve your 5 speed, 6 cylinder problem. Mail me the genius check.
27 cylinders, 30 to infinity speeds including the Dixie and the bike. 3 4-cly cars with 5spd manuals, 1 V8 with 4spd auto, 4cyl bike with 5 spds, one more with one cyl and 6 speeds and the dixie with 2 cyl and a CVT.
More importantly, how much hp? 727hp here.

This thread reminded me of a spread sheet I started putting together a year ago when someone asked me about the various vehicles I have owned.
Some info from it:
Column Shift - 3 and 4 speed
Floor shift - 3,4,5, and 6 speed
Inline engines(including motorcycles) - 1,2,3,4,6 and 8 cylinders
V engines (including motorcycles) - 2,4,6 and 8 cylinders
The most common configuration is an inline 4 cylinder with a 4 speed floor shift.

We had a 6-Speed but we had to sell the boxster to make room for the baby. I can't say that I have ever owned a 4-Speed Manual however. Maybe I need to work on that. I guess, I just have to convince the wife to let me get that corvair that I have been wanting lately...
