Aluminum for me, Grumman 17' square stern. It's caught more fish on the Coosa River between the rapids (up to class 4.5 depending on how many gates are open) than some men have caught in a lifetime and I personally paddled it 100+ miles solo several times. Put a decent trolling motor on it and it's extremely useful. I never experienced any of the negatives except the hot metal thing but a few splashes with a paddle and you're golden
Yep, aluminum for me too. And I agree that the shorter they are the more difficult they are to paddle.
