I sold my 2020 tickets due to a conflict with a starting line school. My number one goal is developing my autocross skills, so I thought, "No problem, there's always next year."
This year, I wasn't sure I wanted to go due to the pandemic. My other ticket was supposed to go to my challenge teammate. He had the same concerns, and so we decided not to go.
I had my tickets sold, then the buyer changed his mind for the same reason (a wise choice, and a decision I encouraged).
I missed the date for checking in with the Speedway and rolling over my tickets to next year. After that, I figured that I would just take my chances at least go for the roar and some of the Rolex.
Now I can't go due to contact with someone who tested positive. So far, I've got no symptoms, and my rapid test showed, "virus not detected." I could still have it since the test is not 100% sensitive, but I'm still glad to get those results.
Due to the uncertainty of the result, and since I've still got to have contact with other people in that same group, I'm not even going to consider going at all. I'll go get tested again next week.
At least I got to hear the cars running when I left work on my lunch break Friday to go get tested. To everyone that's going, have fun, and please, stay safe and healthy.
I thought this was going to be about your dissappointing loss of the lottery. A numerically predictable, but sad, event.
But that sucks worse. Hope you're actually negative and the worst loss is your entertainment!

Came here to say basically the same thing. 'My Rolex fund is dry too'. But on the 24, it's on my bucket list. Hopefully 22 or 23 'Rona permitting.
Went to 2 in a row, 2016-2017. I enjoyed driving down to Florida, taking in the race (although a bad headache caused me to go to bed early Saturday) and driving 20 hours back home. It was so cool to see that place in person after watching so many races there on TV. Also got my car stuck pretty badly in the muddy parking lot at one point, which was aggravating but later became hilarious.
The second year it rained and poured for most of the weekend, but I met up with a couple of online friends so that was nice. That time I went by plane, and although I hate flying, it was a good thing because I got sick the day of the trip home and it would have been no fun at all to drive home feeling that sick. I felt like I had a super-flu for the next two weeks or so.
After that I figured it best to take a break or risk getting burned out, but I'd love to go back in the future. Maybe take a longer time off work, take the Amtrak down to Florida, watch the race, buy a nice rust-free Florida hooptie, and see if I can make it home.
Both times I stayed in a place called the Beachside Motel. As the name implies, you could walk out the back of the hotel past the pool and down about 5 stairs and you were right there on the beach. Unfortunately I spent all too little time out there.

in 95 i took Amtrak from NYC to Deland for Busch Series testing as the car was headed down before i could get out of work. It was a fun trip although a bit long. One I got there I got a cab from Deland to the hotel in Daytona and driver was a bit off. He asked if I was in a hurry, we stopped at a little hole in the wall coffee shop for a burger, and took me through some park he wanted to see. It was like an hour and a half drive. I would have done better walking.

DeLand to the Speedway is about 25 minutes. It's my daily commute, except except for my last turn. I work five minutes from the grandstand, by foot.
That doesn't make it any easier.
Thanks for the replies. I hope I can get to the Challenge this year. I think it's more important to me.
