I'm asking this here because I'll get flamed at the local forum. I'm looking for a rear end for my chevette, I found this Z28 rear end with disc brakes and they say it's a posi rear end. Is that the same as LSD? Also, can this rear end be narrowed?

Yes to both of your questions, but if you are getting a narrowed rear end, their may be better choices over the Camaro rear. What year Camaro?
A decent place to have axles narrowed is ~Moser~
what HP/torque? what use? (drag on slicks?)
that camaro rear may not be up to it really.
I hear about them failing under stock power if used for strip use, so depending on the power output you may need to seek something else.

I imagine it would last a good deal longer in a lightweight car.
When I asked the same question, I got pointed towards S10 rear ends. I have the same LSD as you do and it's easier to buy the narrow S10 rear ends and use their axles than it is to shorten your own.

You might try looking on Racingjunk.com. Lots of hardcore drag race stuff. You might find a stout narrowed pumpkin for cheap.

JDM? On a Chevette? Go with some USDM period wheels for it man. Maybe some Cragar or AR wheels.

I think about 52" I still haven't measured but thats what I heard.

I like all "genres" of cars and I like to get inspired by all of them. I love the look of low offset wheels on the old corollas and datsuns and I think it will look good on the vette. I want my car to be the only one like it, if I wanted a car like everybody elses I would save some money and buy a finished one.
Those little carts made by Taylor-Dunn, about the size of Dihatsu truckies, have a Ford 9", looks pretty narrow.
Dan
I'd go measure. If you can deal with 54", you have an off-the-shelf solution that you can bolt your Camaro LSD into.

Dana 44? Stout enough for 200hp, lots of posi/locker options, any gear ratio you want, and a lot of the jeep guys upgrade and get rid of them. They are under a lot of stuff.
According to this page, the track is 51.2 inches. That means pretty much anything will have to be narrowed.

There's also a rear axle picture; it looks almost exactly like an Opel GT rear axle.
FWIW, I work with a guy who is about ready to get rid of his Narrow Track Dana 44. It's got 4.10's, a Detroit Locker, and a disc brake conversion. Diff is centered. Google says it is 50.5" from WMS to WMS. With 1/4" spacers it will almost exactly match your current width.
Regardless of whether you buy my buddies, I think that a Narrow Track 44 is your best bet. Widely available, should work without narrowing, and an infinite supply of parts.
The Chevette is the Kadett D, and the Opel GT is based on the Kadett, so pretty much the same thing.
And didn't we already have this conversation? http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/looking-for-a-rear-end/7524/page1/
