Decided that I needed a project to get me through the upcoming winter. Goal is to have it on the road by the time the snow meltsand send it home. It should be a good change of pace from the small cars that I normally work on and as much as the flathead concerns me, I have always wanted to learn about them.
Arrival and inventory on the 15th. Should be interesting.![](https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/prod.mm.com/uploads/2020/09/08/1599581169_img_2771-2_mmthumb.JPG)

I like it. Well, other than the fact it's green, I like it. ![laugh laugh](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)
Cool! Looking forward to seeing what's going on here...

You and me both. I like to jump into deep ends as a way of finding out if there are sharks in the water.
They went with a Mustang II suspension and kept the flathead? Interesting combination. Flatheads cool because of historical significance, kinda crappy if you actually compare them to anything modern.
I'm curious to see how you handle this thing!
Is it just me or does that flathead look like a scale model of the real thing?
Heh. Im helping dad with a 49 f1! 8ba flathead, offy heads and dual strombergs with a s10 t5
Fully restored stock chassis, reds headers and smiths exhaust. Hot rod drivetrain, and unrestored body!
Hey, nice! It's got finned heads so presumably already a little bit hot rodded.
Here's a shot of a 1953 F100 with a flathead...in 1/25th scale
The flathead definitely does look small inside the big truck engine bay.

The fact that it's green makes it better.

Offenhouser heads or some such well known brand. Noidea what was done inside.
Mostly the scope of the project is to finish a long dormant project. Brakes, wires, interior and get it running. No idea if the paint is staying or not,its fresh, but fresh several years ago before it was stored and not all panels were painted.

Guy I am helping reassemble an MGB has one on a stand in his shop. I was surprised at how small they are compared to a real engine.
If you end up ditching the flathead, I have a home for it.

Yup, they look like Offenhauser heads. The distributor and exhaust manifolds appear to be aftermarket as well. You should try to figure out what cam is in it, I assume it comes with an upgraded intake manifold too?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Offy heads are very likely. Edelbrock took cues from Offy to make theirs, but I see no Edelbrock script on those heads.
When you get a chance, post a higher-res photo of the engine.
The script on the heads looks like Offenhauser to me.

Yep, Offenhauser seems likely or at least plausible for the heads.
The nice thing is that they were so prevalent at one time that even all these years later, there's still plenty of info available on flathead performance. The parts themselves, not quite so prevalent, but you can find companies making reproduction stuff, and used stuff too if you search hard enough. It's not a budget engine, per se, but you can probably get it tuned up enough to have a fun to drive vehicle. The Jalopy Journal (and their H.A.M.B "hokey-ass message board" as they call it) is probably a good place to look around for info. I found myself reading a few threads there while doing research for my model cars (because let's face it, that's as close as I'll ever get to building one of these engines)

Those heads easily take that engine from 80 hp to 90 ![laugh laugh](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)

Just more room for an 8-71 and velocity stacks.

What HP are we looking at with this bullett?
In reply to 759NRNG (Forum Partidario) :
Dad's hoping for 90 or so
