Stupid question, I need to have my truck smogged so the new owner can pick it up this evening. Recently had to replace the gas cap as I kept getting the check engine light and code.

Replaced everything and have driven the truck ~5 times since. No error's after wiping the codes with my normal reader.

Does anybody know how many cycles it takes for the OBDII systems to show clear across the board so the car can be smogged in california. .

Should be one drive cycle. If the reader sees one or more "Not Ready" sensors, then it may fail. Do a quick scan and make sure all your sensors are in the "ready" condition.

That actually makes sense. Will scan and report back.

it is one drive cycle, but not everyone's "one trip" will always satisfy all of the parameters of the OBDII drive cycle. it needs to get some stop and go, some 45-65 driving and some other things to check out all of the sensors and systems for an obd ready status. that said the last inspection i had done there were a bunch of not ready readings and it still passed.

yeah my mom's truck had 7 codes for things from misfire to evap failure to god knows what. we cleared them with the reader, drove it 3 miles up the road to the testing station, and it passed. on the way out the light came back on.

goofy other thing. we did the same with my cousin's escort. wiped codes, drove to station, and none of the readiness monitors were ready. she said "the mechanic fixed X and cleared the code" - X was what i told her the code was for - and they passed her on her word.

Well it passed just fine, now I get to go car shopping for real once I get the cash.
