So...it's slower than a new Mustang GT and gets incrementally better gas mileage on fuel that costs appreciably more than premium? Well, sure, that's amazing....
Its just two things that I really like that really wouldnt be thought of as going together. I like the Duramax and I love 60's camaros
Plus it looks a hell of a lot better than a mustang gt

Im sure with proper tuning more mileage could be coaxed out of it

What's stopping you from doing it?
Cost, skill level, shop area large enough to complete the project.

The Duramax is pretty light (for a diesel). Lots of aluminum.

Full dress a Duramax is pushing near 900lbs, plus whatever heavier gearbox was required. That's a lot on a ~3200lb car designed around a ~570lb engine, that was probably already front heavy in the first place.
