I love CARnage. Love it.

supposedly This is what happens when you flat tow a Jeep in 4 lo.

How the hell do you not notice the extra drag of trying to turn the engine at 50,000rpm!  I thought I did a number in my ITC Fiesta changing up at the red line and getting 1st instead of 3rd.  Wow, just wow.

The fact that they were driving an RV likely tells us exactly what sort of person was behind the wheel. A.k.a. someone had a senior moment

Our now-departed Volvo dealer was also a Subaru dealer.  They had a Subie flat 4 that someone had done the same thing - put it in 1st to keep it from rolling while they hooked it up to the RV and forgot to put it in neutral.

The underwriter figures they were doing about 50 MPH and the engine was turning 12K RPM.

The remains of the engine was on a stand in the service department as an object lesson.

As my dad once said, "The rotating and reciprocating parts became disassociated".

The other thing is that towing a smaller vehicle with an upper class 'mega' RV is that the driver might not notice the extra drag. This is especially true with diesel rigs. But then again, as a mechanic in the 80s-90s I saw some unbelievable RV stuff. Like seeing nearly the entire length of an RV opened up like a tin can because the driver misjudged how close he/she was to trees and other solid non-giving structures and vehicles. But yes, I do believe that licensing requirements should be tightened up for senior operators (and I'm a mid 60s driver myself).

Here is another example of something dragged behind an RV.  Purportedly left in park.  I'm guessing a big diesel pusher class A would hardly notice the extra resistance.

My F250 probably wouldn't blink too hard, had the trailer brakes lock up once and it took a bit to notice. cool

Did anyone notice that the article said that the parts cost alone was close to $30k? I'd love to see the numbers on how they figured that, must be record mark up. Maybe they are trying to slip a Hellcat crate engine in there.

I can see it.  Engine, trans, t-case, maybe driveshafts, plus anything that got damaged by flying / flailing parts.

My 85 RX7 got destroyed in this fashion, by the guy I sold it to.  Rotary didn't explode, just didn't have any compression.

Last time I drove to Columbus, I saw a skid mark that was well over ten miles long.  It did not end with the trailer getting pulled off, it just sort of faded out like the tire blew, that side of the trailer was now supported by the other axle, and the tire remains were sort of brushing the ground every now and thrn.

Engine and trans are probably $8k each, converters are probably $3k each, clutch and flywheel are ???, who knows what else got wrecked?  I would also assume that the transfer case was damaged, not necessarily due to speed but from all the vibration/shock from the leftovers.
