I parked the truck in a hotel parking lot last night around 5PM. Got in it at noon today and it cranked, but no start.
Lifted the hood, checked the fuse block and couldn't find anything wrong. Couldn't find the fuel pump fuse. Did a little YouTubing. Seemed like it should be simple, but something wasn't right.
Didn't have any testing tools with me, so I walked a mile to the parts store and bought some fuses and an electrical tester.
Got back to the truck, and stuck a 20A fuse in the empty slot where the internetz said the fuel pump fuse should be, and it started right up.
The fuse was MISSING. Not blown, not loose. MISSING.
The only thing I can think is that someone actually swiped my fuel pump fuse. From under the hood, with the cab locked. And left all the valuables alone in the truck.
That's crazy. WTF??

Mice only steal 15 amp fuses.

Only small mice steal 15's. Big mice still 20's and Rats I hear take the large block fuses.

That has to make "say what" . That's funny.

We don't have small mice in AZ. Rats are totally into circuit breakers.
Are you confused? There is currently no reason to get amped up over it.
Piss anyone off between 5 PM & noon?

Nope. I was in my room, watched a couple movies, did some paperwork.

Don't see how. Out of the 200 or so people on this job, only 2 or 3 even know my name. Haven't pissed anyone off.
Did you forget you took it out to keep someone from stealing your truck?

What about the mice. Set out any traps lately?
Because locking a TR6 is pretty useless, I used to take the rotor with me when at a hotel. One time I forgot, and had a crank/no start situation for about a minute. I doubt you would have forgotten taking your own fuse, though.
Weird birthday prank by someone?
Wasn't someone talking about going to Ga to get away with stuff recently?
(And because the internet is bad at recognizing a joke, I'll point out that the above is tongue in cheek)

It actually was my birthday.
But no one knew it.
I was bringing it right back! Sorry.
Search fuse 27. The factory fuel pump fuse is common to burn out so if your truck has the fuse 27 relocation kit (ford actually produce these kits because failure was so common) then there wouldn't have been a fuse in the factory spot. Also I've never heard of the relocation kit failing.

So, another fuse would have been installed in a different location than fuse 27? Why would installing a new fuse in 27 work?
In reply to SV reX :
I've done a couple trucks and I'd recall correctly the instructions tell you to cut the wire from the original fuse location and reroute. But I could see someone tapping into the wires instead of cutting and soldering which would effectively leave the fuse in the spot working as well. If you look up the kit instructions you can see if there is a new fuse in a location that would have been blank from factory. It is a much larger fuse than the factory blade

Hmm... that's a possible solution
So, could it be that the fuse in either place makes the fuel pump work? Test this by moving the fuse back to the other location.
I suspect that you have never looked at the fuel pump fuse before this so you have no way to confirm if the fuse was in the right place previously.
Could you have a fuel pump that is intermittently failing?
Also maybe the dust level can tell you if it looks like a fuse was recently in a slot or not?
I don't want to give anything away, but well played Frenchy. Long drive to GA in your truck, but well done.
