Doing some long overdue garage cleansing and organizing. And came up with a number of dead car batteries. Understand that the recycling center will take them but they probably have some value. I called advance and dudely said that they offer a "gift card" for "a " car battery. Value unknown and only one at a time. Is there a clearer or better answer?
My local parts store will give me $18 each and I've seen people bring in two or three at a time.
I bought a battery at Costco and didn't have a core - I told the guy that. He told me I can come back in a few months if I get one - $15.
Any scrap metal place should give you at least 5$ a piece for them.
In reply to SPG123 :
If you live in a larger metro area, call the other guys. AutoZone, Napa, O'Reilly's. They all give a $10 per battery gift card for use at their store.
Edit: gift card = store credit

They probably do the gift card instead of cash (and specified a single battery) because in some areas, battery theft is an issue. At a friend's dad's shop in a less than savory part of town, they left the hoods unlatched on cars parked outside, otherwise the thieves would use a Sawzall to cut the hood open to get at the $8 battery core.

Mine go to AutoZone for store credit, I think $5 each and up to 5 at a time.
Did this change recently? I vaguely remember trying to take a few old car batteries back to my FLAPS, which I did not purchase the new batteries at, and being told that they would not give me money for them unless I had a receipt for the new batteries showing the core charge.
I thought a core was a core?
Recently did same thing...yard, shop, shed, garage all got swept for old 12v batteries. Ended up taking 8 of them to AutoZone at one time. $80 gift card without a blink.
