I just upgraded from a 1993tbi 350 gmc k1500 extended cab to a 2007.5 nbs gmc 2500hd 6.0L 6 speed...
Its even miles ahead of my dads 2004 5.3L crew cab 4 speed. Its quiet, comfortable (except on the big hits, the chassis is so rigid and suspension so beefy there is only so much heavy duty you can "tune out").
I can't wait to start towing with this thing :D Needs a tune bad, soooo much torque management...
They also have weak pita engines. Good transmissions though!
you could tow with an old truck, but you'd be giving up necessary things like integrated satellite navigation with built in dvd player and wifi interconnectibility and cupholders that keep your beverage either hot or cold... and really, why would you give that up?

Yeah I just test drove a 2013 the other day. Compared to my cam/heads/headers/tune 6.0 I couldn't believe what a total DOG it was. Nice truck though, and just a tune would really wake it up. Loved the short 1st gear on the 6L90E compared to the LOOOONG first gear on my 4L80E.
Back on topic, I've towed with old trucks and newer trucks. Don't think I'd want to tow any significant distance with the old iron. They're cool, but trucks have come a long way.
Lots of guys say trucks have gotten too "car-like". But at least with the 2500 series trucks, they've also become way more "truck-like" at the same time.

I guess if you got the spare cash for a new truck have at it. I'll be the one spending $6,000 on a truck while the other guy spends $46,000!

I have owned 2 x E150 vans, an Expedition, a 11 F150, 66 MCI bus and even a F700 (Clifford), the vans did most of the towing and did it with security and comfort.
This one is an 02 with 7 seats, cost me $1000, and a replacement 5.4 engine, it has 120K, the engine has significantly less.
It will be at the Challenge towing a competitor
