Craigs list shopping is a great way for me to find things that I will never purchase.  Not that given unlimited funds and a dry place to store them I might want...

The other day I was surfing for Datsun parts and came across one of those adds that, was a test. First, the add is gone.  I might have sent to poster a note that he might want to do a bit of research on this Datsun 280Z that he was offering.  Given it sure looked like a Toyota.  You know the one that might look like a Z, if you are not really a car person.

Yes, they were offering a Toyota 2000 GT for 8,500. Looked like it was in an airplane hanger.  Someone was just looking to clear out an old car taking up space.  The keys were in the car.  They were still looking for the paperwork.

That's one you either hope was a scam and are glad you didn't bite, or are extremely jealous of whoever scored it.

As if explaining would be a problem if you *did* drag that one home...

The add was gone before I was smart enough to capture a screen print.  I was so dumb founded by what I was looking at I never gave it a second thought.

I have a copy of the Toyota 2000 GT,  The Complete History Of Japan's First Supercar, signed by the author Shin Yoshikawa.  The whole family has been to the Toyota Motor Museum in Souther California.  No, I just acquired a 1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster and it would be viewed as yet again one more old car.

But aren't these currently selling for $300-400,000? Even a long neglected one would have been easily flipped for a $100,000 profit.

All you need is one 1100% ROI flip like this and you have the freedom bring home as many old cars as you want for a few years.

Were they using these photos?  When I read "airplane hangar" I knew I saw a 2000GT in one somewhere.

The car was a white, left hand drive model but I did not take notice of the license plate.  I live four hours, one way after I collect my trailer, from the location of the car.  The add was down in less time than than it takes to drive to the trailer.  No, this one will be/was, outside my ability to make wishing for a "Win", a reality.

I might have used that one up on my 1964 Series 1 Lotus Elan, years ago.

I had a scammer on the hook for a few days.  It was hilarious fun.  We should all answer these and see how long we can keep them on the hook.  That MAY be the only way we find the real deal.  I have been part of two almost mustang sales where they didn't know what they had, so you never know.

I wish I had kept a record of what I said to the scammer.  I only wonder if they have yahoos like me trying to give them a bad time, and how fast they quit talking.
