+1 on your local area Facebook marketplace and trading groups. Sometimes also called "yard sale" groups. I've been seeing a ton of cheap cars posted.

I'm local to you and have no problem finding project cars that pique my interest, but I do tend to favor Japanese tin. Might just be one of those "when I have no time/money/space there's a million craigslist lusts of the day for way cheap, but as soon as I'm ready to buy there's nothing anywhere". I fancy myself to be a decent craigslist trawler, if you have any specific cars in mind I can keep an eye out.

THIS. I THINK THIS MUST BE THE PROBLEM. I can find all kinds of good stuff when I am not in the market.

Incidentally, I found what looks like a decent diesel Heckflosse with a 4-speed. Not sure if I can deal with 55hp, through. lol.

I had to look up with a Heckflosse was. I shouldn't have done that.

Anyway you can totally get a 2KD-FTV in there to double or triple the HP.

The initials of the city are SD.

Honestly, though, I am a couple weeks from being able to trek that far (next couple of weekends are booked up), so if you have the opportunity, take a look.

I often see good projects out in your neck of the woods, in your price range on barnfinds.com

It's worth keeping an eye on that site.

Eh I don't like that blue. Prefer it black, white, silver, or grey (like my old one).

I'd love to have this, but it would have to be WAY cheaper.

As to where to find things other than CL. Check local auction companies, estates sales, post wanted ads.....I actually found my Casa Grande through a wanted ad.

Also, I have bought a lot through word of mouth over the last few years. My friends, neighbors, and co workers all know I'm into cars and I've bought a lot that way. I feel like the best deals are the unadvertised ones where people are looking for a hassle free and painless sale.

I have no idea what Facebook Marketplace is or how to access it even tho when I post things on FB it asks if I want to put them in Marketplace too, but Facebook Groups is the way to go. You'll need to join multiple groups

Unfortunately it means your feed will be clogged up with all kinds of other things selling.

The local auto auction is a good place to find projects if you have a friend who's a dealer.

There's an old joke about a recently widowed Scottish lady who was asked to write her husband's obituary, and came up with "Jim Reid, from Parkhead, died Thursday". The newspaperman said "Oh, you can say a little more for the same price." "Ok." "Jim Reid, from Parkhead, died Thursday. Ford Escort for sale." Unfortunately people don't do this in American obituaries which closes off this avenue of inquiry.

Facebook Marketplace is weird... I can access it on my iPhone, but can not seem to access it on my iPad or on the website. Seems like they need to make it a bit easier to get to or it is restricted to people who only shop on their phones.

The LetGo app and as someone else already mentioned, Facebook Market place. People selling things on there don't give a berk. As in take this car from my yard now for $100.

I bought the $200 dsm that way and another one for $350.

yupididit wrote: Dude you live in Southern California. I drive around and see potential projects all day. Go to the Palmdale/Lancaster/Little Rock/Lake Los Angeles area and you'll see cars sitting in yards everywhere. Even on the route 138 there's shops that have cars just sitting in front because of people not paying etc. I was up there on Monday and I saw a dozon or so cars I wanted to stop and ask about. What specifically are you looking for? I know of a few places that just has old mercedes sitting there. Even on craigslist. But id you're looking for old american muscle, then it'll always be expensive.

Oh, hey, I know this place. There are cars that have been on that lot for literally YEARS. The reason they don't sell is because the dude running the place wants crazy $$$ for them, unfortunately.
