So my bmw 525 wagon is getting a bit tired. I've had 3 of the bimmer wagons and love them having racked up a total of 375K miles across the 3 of them. All purchased used over the years and essentially low maintenance great cars with just cooling systems the only maintenance item.
I'm in semi retirement and will really only DD about 15k miles a year. Other vehicles in fleet are SWMBO tahoe, my 1996 F250 turbo diesel LWB truck, and my 1987 911 Porsche carrera.
I'm a big guy...6'1" 260 lbs..so hot hatches tho fun are out of the question for DD chores. Add to the fact I've had a stroke that affects my left side I need something with easy ingress/egress...crawling out of my 911 requires a hoist just about
We all love the Panthers but the Caprice PPV intrigues me. Ran across a 2012 model with 65k, fleet maintained one owner with 6 liter 355 hp and 6 speed auto for around $10k. Steelie 18 inch wheels detective package. Pretty nimble for a big 4 door.
What say the hive?
I would sell my first born for one. Sadly, I was fixed before creating one. So I shall forever be without.
I'd say buy it. Everyone I know who's touched one has liked it. It's very closely related to the G8 and SS.
From what I understand 425 hp is easily obtained with minor mods and doesn't hurt reliability....hmmmm.
From my interWeb sleuthing I've discovered the seat back bolsters are cut more generously to allow for cops gun belt....Perfect for my wide arse.
I drive one at work. The only problems we have had were some AC lines rubbing and causing leaks. Mine did it twice but supposedly the design of the line has been changed to fix it. All of them got recalled for a steering rack issues about 2 years ago where you would lose power steering while driving. I had some issues with the cooling fans not working but mine seems to be the only one that has happened to. They are much faster than the Impala or Vic which we still have a few of.

Now that's real world experience info that is useful. How is ride quality in your expierence?
Ride quality is good. One of my coworkers just bought a new left over 2014 for a personal car if that tells you how much we like them.
It isn't going to be a feature-rich ride - basic cloth seats, no bluetooth, etc but it's a TON of car for the money. Do eet.
I have some secondhand experience with them through work- it's my understanding that the only reason they're not the police car of choice for most departments is that they lack the interior space for the massive loadout of computers, radios, and such that are the norm these days (hence why you see so many departments switching to SUVs). Other than that people seem to love them.
Wait...is this the SS of popo pursuit vehicles??? IF so pull the trigger ALL pun intended....I've only seen one and like a dumb a$$ I ran up on one to check it out only to have the P officer behind the wheel giving me the stink eye............er oops Way stealthy, but if its the right color (white) then you can scream down the inside lane on the interstate with reckless abandon. Not that I would ever do such a thing.
Our fleet guys say the Tahoe is cheaper to maintain. The V8 Caprice takes like 8.5qts of oil.
Do it, and bring it to the challenge so i can try it.

Is the 525 manual or automatic? No, I'm not interested, but I may know people...

Auto
Aren't vehicle specific parts a bitch to find? Its based on the Aussie Commodore right?
Why did I not know these had got so cheep. These look like a lot of performance for the $$

In window shopping the net I'm noticing either high miles (150,000÷) or salvage titles for around $10k cars.

We have sold both the Tahoe and the Caprice. Believe it or not the Tahoe feels more athletic. Soooooo much more fun than the civilian version. But I have been waiting for values on the Caprice to reach my humble financial abilities. Mine will have heads cam intake exhaust.
