That's my g/f's biggest complaint about me: "You have too many hobbies!! Pick one!!"

Right now, I'm somewhat focused on cycling, music and cars... with "minors" in skiing and wood-working... but her second issue the fact the cars have so many sub-sets: auto-x; working on MINI's; restoration; and so on...

If you saw some nifty stereo thing, would you start planning and executing a new stereo build tomorrow? Or have you "been there, done that" and crossed it off the list? Are you eagerly awaiting the NEXT distraction? Or will you see the current hobby through to the goals you have for it? Oh, I'm also 40 and my automotive life-list is at 218 cars. Although about half of them were bought to part out or flip.

I attempted to do my "vehicle count" on Facebook and found that there is a limit on the app. It is 250. I was not done.

Do I still do ALl of those things? No.

Would I still do all of those things if I had the storage and cash to do them as hobbies? Yes.

With car stereos, I would like to come up with $2500.00 to do an audiophile system in the Stratus. I just don't want to do it in a car like the Stratus.

All of the forms of racing still interest me. Although I really like my kids so Autocross and Rallycross fit my lifestyle better right now.

OP here again.

I think you actually hit onto something here. Ouch. I feel like you just hit me with an intervention.

The "brick wall" for me is spending money on the car after I buy it. I'm so concerned that I will lose money on the car (especially if I turn it over quickly) that I don't want to put any money into it to fix it, improve it, correct it.

I know it makes no sense (what hobbies are actually no cost pursuits?) but I think that's my brick wall :-(

Comes from growing up poor and stayign that way for many years, I think...

There's part of my problem. By the time I have $2,500 to do something like a stereo, turbo, whatever, I've probably spent it on three and a half other cars.

Why drop $2,500 on a stereo when I can get an entire running Mustang? Or an awd DSM? Or a brown Pinto wagon? Or a 924S?

See, I've gone and done it again.

Hi, my name is Randy. I am 45yrs old and I too have owned more than 200 cars..... I figure as long as I keep my addiction to cars under $1K it's pretty cheap fun. Of course I don't have a wife anymore to keep me in check, just my daughter..."NOW what?" And my son..."OOH I Wanna drive it!" That's why I love this site (and of course the magazine) We are not a support group as much as a bunch of enablers! And now I have to go look at a Fiat X 1/9 I saw on the way home from Sunday's auto-x!

I think you have the opposite problem many of us have. I know that me and many of my car buddies will buy a car and swear we are going to leave it stock and end up with another project car. I know that my SC started off that way. I bought it as a daily driver while I fixed up my nx2000 for racing. Before I knew it the NX was sold and I was looking for a DD to drive while I race my SC. Hahaha

I just keep finding another interesting car for the right price, being on this site does not help.

Still making progress on a few, now I have 5 on the waiting list.
