This might be an interesting question...
So i came across this rare old Erebuni bumper for the MX6 for DIRT cheap.
My car is 22 year old faded shades of red/pink/burned-through-to-white/flat red/peeling clearcoat.
This bumper is black.
How do i get the bumper to match the car without painting the entire car? Much as i hate red, i've grown somewhat fond of the hard-lived-dirtbag-status paint job it's got going for it.
I wouldn't be against spraying the entire car John Deere Blitz Black, but i'd like to wait until after it sees a Challenge for that.
This is the sort of paint i'm dealing with. This picture makes it look WAY better than it really is.

Honestly, you've got two options. Attempt to restore what you can and respray the bumper, or paint the bottom half of the car black.... the latter would probably be easier. Look kinda cool too.
just paint the bumper primer flat black and the world will know it's a work in progress

A friend of mine had to replace the front bumper on his red 93 Civic. He didn't bother painting it, so he had a satin black bumper on the car. We put a wide vinyl stripe (18" or so) over the car in satin black. Voila, it looked totally intentional.

Hrmmm.... Down the middle of the car? (over the roof) Or down the side? (over doors?)

Arg, i hate that look!!!! I mean, it's not a nice-looking car in the first place, but still.
I was also thinking maybe doing the car in digital urban camo, using the red as a base. Just rattle can the bumper red so it somewhat matches, then lay the stencils and go to town. Should be able to do it in a weekend, right?
Trunk lid is already rattle canned red and doesn't match anyways, i guess.
ya musta missed the thread... satin black is out after that dickhead celeb had his car painted satin... it now ain't cool no mo

PAint the whole middle of the car black. roof, hood, trunk. Bumpers follow those lines.

Down the middle, centered on the car. Although you could do just about anything with graphics that would make it look like the bumper belonged. Those side strakes you see on Challengers, for example.

Dammit Tom, you HAVE one of these. The bumper wraps around the whole front end and goes to the wheelwell.
This was my solution to a similiar problem

Alternatively, feel free to throw out awesome paint ideas that could be done by any idiot in a weekend and for cheap.
I mean, it can't be THAT hard to make a half-assed weekend paint job look better than what's left of the paint on the car, right? RIGHT?
What the berkeley man, get some toothpaste and polish those headlights. It's like a hot girl with stained teeth!

Like this? That's what we did when we swapped out the front and rear bumpers on "Igor". We also did the hood and trunklid to give him a big orange stripe.
i would say do the best possible job you can to intentionally contrast the rest of the car as much as possible.
Flying tigers. Or put sharp teeth on it. For some reason I'm thinking it's a wide mouth bumper along the lines of veilside?
I do believe that's the bumper, yes.

It was an experiment. I liked how they looked, i'll re-do it correctly when i get the chance.

We faced a similar dilemma with the ZX2--the yellow was kind of faded, and its also a very 'thin' color for coverage. The solution was to paint the schnoz and the bottom of the car in gunmetal...like the wheels.
This car has the whole kit.
I'd be down for a set of the side skirts as well if i could find them.
I would give a kidney for the old Postert kit as well.
