Saw this on my local Craigslist (NTDWM). 2004 Mazda RX-8 with bad engine $1700!

I'm already knee deep in another project but man that is tempting!

That's what I thought!
$1700 would barely you buy a NA FC.... (Now I'm starting to think "Self! Vancouver is NOT that far away from Tacoma, and SWMBO IS out of town...")
WANT!!! Too bad my house is on the other side of the continent from this and I'm currently on a different continent as well. I think the low price is because it's from a dealer and they probably just want to dump it ASAP. And I'm still wondering how one of the four bullet points is simply "Roof".
Someone go buy by trailer out of the GRM Classifieds so I have the cash for this! LOL.
Every RX8 is the perfect V8 swap candidate.
I love shopping for these because everyone I see needs an engine or states they have already had the engine replaced. Americans are way too E36 M3ty on cars for us to ever get another rotary.
Seriously though. The engines barely last. It's past super car depreciation %. That is truly nuts. Rotaries are given the same modern materials that piston engines receive, but don't live the same lifespan. Then again, it's essentially a 2-stoke, so 100K miles wears like 200k?
Too many rx8's with blown motors
Not all rotaries suffer the same problems as the Renesis. There are still plenty of 7's alive and kicking.
Plenty of 8's also. They are not ones to skimp on maintenance. I've got 46k miles on mine now, including a lot of track time, and it's still running strong.
Yeah, but 46k is hardly high miles. At 15k miles a year, that's 3 years of driving. Should just be getting broken in.
Here's a 2004 RX-8 $2750 with a bad engine for almost as good of a price. Depending on your location this may be a lot closer than the west coast of Canada.
