Looks awesome, Pat! And you did the paint yourself? What size wheels are those?

I'm still thinking 18" Mach 1/Magnum 500s for mine. And I'm still thinking about that Lamborghini Grigio Telesto or Audi Nimbus Gray.

Duende, I picked up my '01 for under a grand.

in the spring i need to put on a new drivers fender and wetsand/buff the entire car. its a 10-12 footer right now.

i painted it in my barn for about $240

17x8 mustang bullitt wheels with adapters/spacers. i really want some 18" crosslaces/woven wheels in black. my stock black steelies are getting snow tires and going back on for winter.

i picked the 99 up for $1800 with 64k miles.

Ok, your turn for show and tell, belteshazzar. What wheels are those? And did you remove your blue oval from the grille? Hard to tell.

The wheels are knock-offs of Saleen SC wheels. 17x9 in front, 17x10 in back.

Since mine came with the "Street Appearance Pkg", it had the civilian grille that I didn't like. I ordered a Police grille off evil-bay($45 shipped-brand new) but it didn't come with an emblem and they aren't the same size. For now I have none.

The headlights were foggy and yellowed. New ones, again off ebay, were $65 shipped for the pair.

I bought a pair of used flowmaster 40's off craigslist for $50. My friend at an exhaust shop grafted them in place of the factory units, and deleted my rear cats. As payment I let him keep the converters for their scrap value($80 or so).

Turns out Bilstien HD's are only $250 shipped for a panther, GREAT improvement.

Lastly, I got a new set of Ford Racing 3.73's from a local enthusiast site($75) and installed them in my factory track-lock 8.8, replacing the 3.27's mine came with. While I was in there I noticed the axles were pitted and worn where the wheel bearings ride, so I replaced all that too ($250).

That's my story.

i think 3.73's would bug me, i'm not sure what i have now but it revs kinda high cruising relative to the 2.73s in the wagon i'm used to.

p71's are 3.55's or 3.27's out of the box iirc.

When I ran an rpm calculator my 3.27's at 75mph were 2150rpm, and 3.73's are at 2400.

Gotta love that .70 overdrive.

Great point.

fyi everybody; a white one with holes in it and over 100k brings as little as half as much.

I was willing to pay up.

Two questions for anyone who can answer.

If I pick up a P71 without a backseat, how much can I expect putting in a new rear interior and seat to cost?

Second, I've heard there is a big difference in the rack and pinion prior to '03? Everyone I've heard talking about these cars says for handling you want to get an '03 or above model, but because of my price range - 1k, nice and easy - I have to shop for an earlier model. Just curious as to what the differences are, and whether or not that difference can be fixed via the aftermarket IF it's even an issue.

Thanks...

This is what got me thinking!

before 03 they were recirculating ball with a drag link and idler arm. not real precise, but pretty durable. i had a cab driver come in to AZ one time to buy a new idler arm for his CV, he said he had to replace it about every 150-160k...he was buying his second one.

I like that blue stripe on the fenders. I thought it would be cool to do one of these up all Mach 1 style with the big stripes :) Nothing wrong with the earlier model for handling. The steering isn't quite as sharp, but it's still easily correctable with big sway bars, Bilsteins, and new springs.

As for the back seat, there are a ton of people selling used CV parts. You can probably pick up a back seat for well, well under a hundred bucks. Putting it in is easy easy.

Used interior parts will be no problem. Be patient about it. They're not rare.

I've never driven a newer one. My 02 steers okay, I don't really think about it. Bad news for the newer cars; I'm pretty sure Bilstien doesn't make HD's for the '03 and newer. At any rate, the '02 and older ones are just a hair over $200 a set to your door. I seem to remember the application guide said they fit all the way back into the '60's. Furthermore, the older ones can run more wheel options. They may or may not require spacers, but the new ones offset is too set out for a lot of stuff but late model mustang wheels.

I just checked the Bilstein website and you're correct, they don't have shocks for 2003 or newer.

pre spark plug change - and i bet they are original with 65k miles - i'm getting 18 mixed with my foot in it relatively hard quite a bit of the time. last weekend i went to chicago with extra weight in the trunk(delivered a transmission setup), and some GTFOMW i'm taking my sister to the emergency room driving i got almost 21.

not as good as my caprice, not as bad as my astro. i'm not sure if i have 3.55 or 3.27 gears

i'm planning to do my plugs soon before it gets cold.

for back seats you can pick up new grey cloth takeouts on ebay from a dealer in ohio for $25 BIN on ebay with $50 shipping so only 75 for a brand new seat.

Not as good as I'd hoped either. Always thought one with a LS1 would be awesome though! Just need to lighten that badboy up and put a proper manual in it!
