Plaid fast car slow, or semi fast car slow?

I am sure that we have hashed this out but I feel the need to do it again. In terms of DD where do we sit as a group. The wife's Mini is out of warranty and being sold this weekend (Pending check clear). She is taking the Subaru, and my father is getting my mustang leaving me for once with a completely clear slate and a actual garage space and a pile of cash.

I need a do literately everything DD. Autocross and driver training three-four times a year, going to work in traffic 365, can be driven in the rain. Must be comfortable enough that I can drive from SD to Las Vegas at least 3-4 times a year and sit in LA traffic without cooking me alive. I am not flipping cars really at this point so no weekend car hence the big budget.

I'd go for the CTS-V Wagon. That has a cool factor and screams do it all car to me the most from that list.

The local dealers are total E36 M3. It part of the reason I have not bought a Aston/Lotus/Jag in the past locally. They had exactly what I wanted in stock, went in to test drive and they treated me like just below them, feet on the desk sort of thing, fake Panerai 88 on each of theirs wrists. I actually went into the sales managers officer and pulled out a bank statement, that I brought as income verification, popped it on his deck and told he exactly where he could stick his sales staff.

Keep in mind that the V wagon is really a seven year old car at the end of it's run. Nothing about the chassis or motor are even a tiny bit bad, but the interior and especially the radio/electronics aren't modern. We've moved beyond the idea that one should load music onto the cars hard drive via your CD collection.
Slightly less than 400 miles into mine and it's absolutely the right choice for me, but it's something to think about.

I test drove one, its not going to work unless I get a used one with some modifications to make it a bit more modern. Also the back seat is surprisingly small and the hatch slopes down so aggressively I was surprised that you could get the tuba in.

I'd love to be able to add something cool you haven't thought of to the list, but I can't see anything better than a 911 Turbo S or an R8. For the money of a 2010 Turbo S can't you get into an early V10 R8?

Wish I could have seen his reaction, and the sales guys when he ripped them a new one. Didn't the Manager beg forgiveness and offer his first born in an effort to win you back?

I would love to find a 911 GTS PDK Sport Chrono...I found one but it was a Cab.

I vote plaid; but I confess to wanting to get a long term PDK enthusiast perspective.

Turbo S given that list but by my count you had 3 cars until recently. Was that too many? From my (possibly warped) perspective, the tire/fuel budget of daily driving a Turbo S could damn near pay for a simple/comfortable/more spacious DD and let you get crazier with a limited use sports car. It looks like 997 Turbo S money gets a clean F430 or Gallardo if you like those things.

I always like the microbe threads. I have no idea of which of those you should buy. I'd like any of them as long as I didn't have to pay for them, but I have no idea of which I think I would like the best.

Interesting insight on the CTS-V.

What about the Morgan? If an M5 is to common to consider, then I doubt that the Aero8 would be too common. Not sure about availability and price, but that would be the one I would want to experience to see if it would work for me, then I would start down your list of the usual suspects.

Everything you say is correct, but I still love it. I have to admit, if I didn't already have a 911 that I love, I might have shopped differently.

For real, the 911 Turbo will do everything anyone would ever need in a car. It is ballistic quick, but it's easy to drive around town.

I would not buy an R8 V8, because that is a lot of money for something that is slower than a Boxster S.

I test drove a 4S (IIRC) and was in a GTS that my friend test drove later. Call us shallow but there was just way to get past the ugly. That, and our uniformly miserable experience with service at our local dealer turned us (personally) off from P-cars.

I realize slower than some of your cars.. what about the Cayman S?
