First, the back story.  A week or two ago one of the Kazoo family (who shall remain nameless) dropped I bike on the front bumper of the Miata.  The handle of the bike took a teardrop-shaped chunk about the side and thickness of a dime out of the front bumper.  I tried cleaning it out and filling it with paint.  I was adding a layer every couple days and letting it dry.  Today, I finally had what appeared to be the appropriate thickness of paint in it and started working on buffing it out.  As I started buffing, the "patch" of paint I had built up pretty much rolled out of the divot in the bumper.  I wasn't overly happy with how it was coming together, so I'm not overly disappointed.  In the mean time, while working on another issue with the car, I actually found the paint/plastic chip out of the bumper which I assumed had flown off into parts unknown.

So, here's the $1,000,000 question.  I'm thinking of trying to reattach the "chip".  What kind of adhesive do I use?  I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) that bumper is probably polypropyline (it's an 03).  Let's also assume that, realistically, I'll probably only get one shot at this, so how realistic is it to try to "re-attach" this chip?  If not, what would you suggest?  I know a full repaint is the only foolproof solution, but that isn't in the budget.  An at least semi-successful repair would go a long way towards quieting my automotive OCD.

I thought about that.  Here's the pluses and minuses as I see it:  Pluses: I have it, and I have chemical accelerator from scale model projects.  It's relatively easy to work with and cures pretty much instantly with the use of the accelerator.  Minuses: The glue itself tends to be brittle.  I'm afraid it wouldn't be the best for longevity.  It also tends to "add thickness" as it cures, which means my "chip" will likely stick out above the surface of the paint.  I'm hoping for an adhesive which will dissolve and then bond/weld the plastic on the chip and the divot.  I just don't know what that adhesive is.

Ended using JB Weld Plastic Bond - product number 50133.  If anyone's interested, details here:  build thread - divot fix
