Is this a real thing or just a couple of Internet posts that have taken on a life is their own.

I'm headed out to look at it now and see what I can see. My 2012 Honda CRV all-wheel drive is dripping transmission fluid. A quick search on the web came up with a few posts on different sites with people that have had this issue and dealers telling them they had porous cases.

As stated it's a 2012 and it only has 67000 miles, the drip started about 3,000 miles ago, I figured it was a friend s car that left the drops in the driveway and not my three year old CRV.

What's the scoop?

Not porous...

Bigger leak than I first thought. Pulled the under body drain shield for the trans drain, it was pretty wet, the rest of the under body shields are wet also. While wiping the stuff down, I noticed something floating around on top of one of the sheilds. Wiggled it to the edge and pulled it out, its a rubber plug, about 21mm in diameter, and says ATF on it. Its not the dip stick.

Now I need to figure out where it goes. Any ideas will be great as I prefer not to remove all that shielding under the car to find the spot.

Thanks

Found it, its part 14 here. Getting it back on is going to be fun with everything in the way....

I can't speak for Hondas, but porous castings are a real thing.

Is that the fill plug? My 05 odyssey has a transmission fill plug right on top of the trans. Its actually super easy to access with a long enough extension.

In reply to Robbie:

14 25615-RCL-003 CAP, FILLER (ATF)

Not a very useful fill location when the trans is in the car, batter, battery tray in the way, to get the plug back in the battery had to come out, then I had to do a funny twisting dance to get my hand close enough to drop it in, then remove hand insert other hand in different location and dance again, and then a push with the fingers, more dancing to get hand out.

When I did the trans service 9 months ago, I filled via the dip stick as I did not see this plug. When I do the next service, I will still fill through the dipstick as there is no clean shot at the hole this plug goes in even with a long funnel.

Very glad I dont need a case, will keep an eye on it to make sure it does not pop out again.

PS- I will be picking up a spare one of these plugs, I was lucky it stayed where it did. Steve
