Among my little fleet of misfit Porsches, I've got a 78 924 that needs a fuse box due to water/corrosion damage. I have a good fuse box from an 84 944 and they sure look the same. Does anyone know for sure if they are actually the same part? Electrons and I don't get along too well,s so I want to try to do this only once. Thanks!

Fuse boxes are just static parts. If they look the same and the numbers are the same just swap them out but make sure the right size fuses are in the right places.

They look identical but I won't know part numbers until I remove them both. At that point, I may as well try to plug the 944 box into the 924. I was hoping to find out if it will work, before tearing both cars apart

You can repair the 924 fuse box by pulling it apart and cleaning the insides up. Don't forget the firewall ground blooms and adding an extra ground for the gauges behind the center speaker cover, that will help with a lot of common electrical problems on those cars.

The 944's EFI solution is pretty self-contained to the passenger side of the car, so it should be similar enough to make it work. Keep in mind the 79 and later 924's had an extra fuse block added that the 78's didn't, so that might trip you up, but if you look at what the fuse the box/relay panel handles on those cars, you'll see that it's pretty basic stuff and relatively straight forward.

Wiring diagrams for both will help verify any changes, but the wiring colors stay pretty consistent up until 85.5.

Thanks! Do you have a good used 924 fuse box laying around that you'd like to sell?

I took them both apart. Not the same. Not even close. Anyone else contemplating it, don't bother.

You know, I think I might actually have a spare from my 79. Let me look when I get home.

When I was wiring in the MegaSquirt on mine, I seriously considered replacing the stupid thing with a painless kit just to start with something that was documented in a way that didn't make me drink. Not too mention the modern fuses and the ability to locate it somewhere that didn't require a yoga pose to access.

Hi M030- I know this thread is from some time ago but, I noted you referenced a fuse box you had from an 84 944. I am trying to put my '84 back together after a repair shop damaged the fuse box to where 3 relays are dangling under the dash. Any chance you still have yours and an interest in selling it?? Please let me know.

Thanks, Stan
