Having been behind the wheel of a 997 GT3 RS 4.0, I can say that there is no better car in existence.
I will one day own a 996 GT3, though. Excellent all-rounder, that car.
As a ex 996 GT3 owner you are correct. The 997's in some specs can be brutal on the road.
Have 996 GT3 prices gone as crazy lately?

No but if they stick a manual in the 991 GT3 or GT3 RS then they are going to drop like a stone. Not really into the affordable range but at least into dreaming range. I might be in minority here but if your going to spend that sort of cash get a GT2 RS with a manual and hold onto it for a long time.

I honestly believe the GT2 RS will not hold its value as well as the RS 4.0. The turbocharged engines just haven't got the absolute craziness inherent with the 4 liter N/A Mezger.
A GT3 RS is at the top of my Lotto list. I would get something else to DD but they just push all of the right buttons for me.
