porsche people - Exhaust question

The pipes off these headers... where can I find them? Looking on pelican and coming up with nothing... ideas?

You can call me crazy but those look like the 917/30 exhaust extensions.

looks like they have been scraped on the ground more than once too.

No heaterboxes.. so for racing only

Those appear to be very similar to the factory supplied header/megaphone setup on early 911 ST racers. I can't find pictures right now, but that might be your answer.

They appear to be on a 2.7 RS...(clone?)

To actually answer your question...

This is the muffler used to match up with factory tubular exhaust headers or "spagetis" and short megaphones or "diffusoren."

This style muffler was used in 1970, 71 and 72 on 911ST and 914-6GT and later the 2.8 RSR.

(BTW, this explanation came from a post on Early911SRegistry.org)

well... Its more similar to the latter than the former, but I suppose you could call them mufflers.

See now i'm wondering which car i have would actually look good with those.

Stick one out the bumper of the MX6.

I have "standard" headers on my car (there seems to lots of variations, but they pull back more then the Clarks Ultimates, more like the pic above). I bought them from a Corvair shop, not sure who would make them now, probably best to look around Corvair boards etc. They seem to come up for sale occasionally.

My headers did get destroyed on one side after an accident and I had to repair them. Finding the right tubing size (2 1/4 I think) is pretty hard, but it is out there.

I run them into a pair of Dynamax Super Turbo mufflers. They make a nice sound. One important note: make sure to run a longish tailpipe out the the rear, without it the resonation (around 2800 rpm) is insane! I could feel the pressure waves in my ear while driving with the windows down. Put 6 inches of pipe off the end, much nicer.

I have a 2.9 liter (VW piston cylinders) with modified heads for 9.5:1 CR. Makes a nice crisp sound with the headers, not obnoxious though.

Warren and my Father have been friends since the 70's...

My dads webber motor... all you need is $$$. He's won NEDIV 5-6 times in this car and placed as high as 8th @ the nationals in the early 80's...

Megaphones are pretty commonly available if you're doing a custom fabbed setup. I like the Burns Stainless parts the most when I daydream about my next set. My first car was my baja Bug that had a "stinger" so I've always had a soft spot for them. Loud, no doubt, and when you're doing things wrong like exhaust leaks and overly rich fuel conditions, you get awesome flames out of them.

Flames is what I'm aiming for! Lots of guys used to run stingers on Corvairs which I also love...but it's just another thing to fabricate ... I want that classic racer feel...

They wouldn't be that hard to fab up, but if you want pre-fabbed they're out there. I did some googling and found the Porsche guys call them "cookie cutter" megaphones:
