Hey guys, maybe some of you remember me from a few past GRM challenges, part of the condor speed shop team.. I had been following the grm guys and their potential 818 project with a friend of mines car in mind.. the other morning while reading "cars that changed the game" i said to myself i should see what he ended up doing with it) Well few days later with some luck, he was ready to part with it.. And i was extremely guilty in taking the car for a "challenge car price" but as you and i know for some poeple who are sentimental with their first cars, the cars story is more important than its selling price. I was more than happy to take this car off his hands knowing it wasnt going to end up in the wrong hands..

Its a 2002 WRX, original owner, 100% stock unmolested. It was his first car, bought brand new.. has 165k, not a single modification. So im in a tough spot... Mod it, and make a competetive challenge car? (easily in the budget) Or keep original, and enjoy for what it is... Or 818 project!!

Wow, you would definitely have some explainin' to do if you brought that to the Challenge! Looks too nice to turn into a donor, so I say take it to the Challenge and enjoy it as is!

They're really good cars as they came from Subaru and there are too many that have been ruined through modification. Throw some maintenance it's way and enjoy it in stock form for a while.

Sethmeister this is what could make the chllenge tricky for people set out to just win, anyone with disposable income could give me anything for a "friend" price.. EVen if the sale was legit, there is still the FMV.. even the grm guys said it about the wagon.. They got an incredible deal on the car..

Bring it.

You hit the track in your WRX, I'll hit the track in my MINI Cooper S. Should be a fun smack down.

Let the whining begin!

The WRX is a terrible car. Ugly, slow, handles like a boat. You wouldn't be happy with it. It will eventually give you erectile disfunction.
But because you're a fellow GRMer, I would be more than happy to pay you what you paid for it to save you the terrible mojo coming your way. I'd hate to see you suffer. Heck, I'm married so my erectile doesn't have to function!

I'd enter it in the challenge. It's very nice so I don't think I'd want to mess with it too much. Just enter it stock or close to it. Will you win? Nah. Will you have fun? You know the answer to that.

I agree with Woody, with the addition of DrBoost's challenge suggestion.

Leave it stock, make it better through cleaning and maintenance, buy some nice tires (nothing crazy, keep it in the challenge budget), and bring it to the challenge. As ive said in the past regarding a stock Mustang GT, even if it's not in the spirit of the 'built not bought' challenge i still think the other competitors will enjoy the opportunity to beat the hell out of what 10 years ago was a highly regarded sports vehicle with their $1500 E36 M3boxes.
