I am working on a power disc conversion for one of my cars and I am at the point of buying a power brake booster. I can get a rebuilt one from work for $80-$100 but I am thinking about pulling one from the junkyard. Specifically a 2.3L fox stang. Is it worth the savings? I rarely see boosters go bad and I would try to pull from the newest vehicle possible.

They go bad all the time. When master cylinders leak, they leak into the booster area, and the fluid can wreck the seals.

Often times, the cause of the failed master is a booster pulling a vacuum on the end of it.

On the other hand, if it's cheap enough, and easily accessed enough, you could probably buy 2 or 3 and still make out okay.

take a vacuum tester with you. if the booster will hold vacuum, it's worth the $ to buy a junkyard part.
