So my parts bin Frankenstein monster of a minitruck has a steering system made up of components from 3 different cars.  I have a C4 vette steering rack, Silverado PS pump and a 99-04 Mustang GT hydroboost.  I haven't thought about this until now but it looks like the mustang uses Mercon LV ATF for PS fluid and the GM components use a standard PS fluid.  Have any of you guys made mix matched systems like this? My initial thought is both ATF and PS fluid are basically hydraulic fluids so it shouldn't be an issue but is one better than the other?

It's hydraulic fluid. Use what makes ya happy.

I have 2/3's of your situation and I've been using the Royal Purple fluid for 3 years.  No problemo.

That's what I was hoping to hear.  I have two bottle of Walmart Supertech PS fluid on the shelf that will be getting used.

The Ford part should use Mercon V, not LV.

Id use that, or just regular Mercon 3... don't think anything in there is really sensitive to fluid choice.
