What is the value of a complete TPI SYSTEM? Including rails, harness, injectors, MAF, ECM, computer, etc?

I see advertised on ebay from $200 to $850. Apparently off road/rock crawler types like the torque and fuel delivery characteristics.

So, not the same...

I sold a complete tbi setup with tuned computer and all the fixings for 400.

I think that is high for tbi, but wouldn't blink at that if it was tpi.

Really?

It's a TPI from an 89 c4. I didn't realize they we're going for anywhere near that. It's generally considered the weak link on L98 motors due to small diameter long runners. Plus, I've heard it was originally designed for the 305 ci and not 350 ci engines.

I bought a setup recently for $150. I think I have the distributor, too (in addition to all the stuff you listed). That was asking price listed on Craigslist for everyone to see. I'd say that's definitely at the low end...I feel like I got a good deal. However, if you're looking for a fair market value...I did buy mine in the fair market.

Yeah...trying to come up with FMV for challenge. I'm removing the TPI SYSTEM and am listing a FMV in recoup. Really a moot point because I only paid $500 for my hooptie so that's max recoup and I've already sold close to $300 in Parts so it doesn't matter if I call it $150 or $400.

I was just surprised at some of asking prices I was seeing.

I sold most a tpi (ported manifolds and everything else but the sensors and electronics) for 250 here. I felt like i screwed the guy, but thats what he offered me.

Memo to self: don't buy parts from Duster. J/K

Looking at some of eBay prices you may be the one who got screwed. E.g., saw just a set of TPI fuel rails actually sell for $199 on EVILbay

And since we're on the subject...If anyone has a good deal on a pre-'86 TPI manifold base...I could use one. That way I could use old-school heads with the TPI setup. (Maybe it's super-easy to modify the later one to use with the earlier head center bolts...I don't know.)

I'll have to look this evening but I remember it had something to do with swapping door panels between two cars. Initially approved but then nixed on further thought.

Start at darkbudda's question about door panels and then continue to page 5. Looks like he basically said don't be a dick which is apparently different than being an shiny happy person.

Early style (85-86?) $175 for complete and functioning. $250-$300 for later style in good shape and functioning is my guess. I sold an 85 system for $150 a long time ago.

About ten years ago the going rate on Ebay was at least $400 all day long for complete set up and there were E36 M3loads of 'em. Obviously less if parts missing, more w/ upgraded injectors etc. Some sellers parted them out piece by piece.

It took weeks of following but I bagged a complete set for $260, had to stay up all night to get it. Who ends an auction at 3 a.m. on a weeknight?

I'd watch auction sales for current value. $400/ complete set would seem a fair value if there is still demand.

edit: after searching ebay and CL ain't much demand or availability. Corvette TPI is asking premium tho. SBC stuff is getting passe now too w/ LS engines rather cheap now.

... And I'm the guy w/ a complete set on the shelf yet

So am I a dick or shiny happy person?

I reread that section concentrating on Tom's pontifications and think I get that I have to remove my claim of recouping the $750 FMV rare cracked dashpaid.

Bringing this back for a technical question to the experts:

Hypothetically I have a car with an '89 350 TPI engine (iron heads Camaro) harness and everything. Hypothetically I also have a 350 TBI engine. Say the TPI engine in the car needs a new bottom end. Can I simply put the TPI intake and distributor on the TBI long block without any issues? Or should I also swap over the TPI cam? Anything else involved here? Google tells me the TPI has a CR of 9.5 while the TBI is 9.8

TPI setups will  start going up in value soon as otherwise excellent condition IROCs and Trans Ams are now worth a lot less without original TPI parts than with the 850 Edelbrock some guy swapped on in 1999 or whatever when the plenum gaskets dried out and he couldn't figure out what was making it run poorly. Originality is key now if you want the big bucks for these cars. It's only been like that for the past few years.

In reply to maschinenbau :

I'm pretty sure the TPI cam is different than the TBI, but I'm not 100% sure on that. My gut says you'd be better off with the TPI(or mild aftermarket cam) if you're retaining the TPI system - just don't go too extreme with any mods or cam choice, otherwise you'll need a reflash too.

Personally, after dealing with the Vette I'd be more tempted to keep the TBI, but with a good cam & heads, and Megasquirt setup to control it.

you will never notice a .3 difference in Compression especialy under 10 to 1.   More to it than just that but it would take me all day to type it out.

GCrites80s

Isn't it 4% more power (all other things being equal) per full point of compression? So .3 would net only around 1.2% more power.
