For those that don't know, multiple sources have confirmed that an update to the RT660 will be coming and available around Q1 of 2025. Doesn't sound like it will be a big difference, but there ended up being a pretty large pace difference between the 615K and 615K+ with not too many changes, so time will tell.
Example source:

We have a set coming for our usual eval, plus Falken already sent a set of the outgoing tire so we could do a direct comparo. We'll also add in one of the other pointy end Super 200's to see where the new guy lands.
In reply to Andy Hollis :
Can't wait! The tire tests are a huge "added value" for us.

Hopefully comes to market that performs as well as the CRS V2 but is actually available to purchase...
Wonder if the 660+ will still have the splice issue.

This question is quite possibly the first thing the engineers had to address.
Checks price. Smashes head against the wall.

Rt660+ is currently available in my size (and $4/tire cheaper than RT660).... gamble with the new version or get the 'proven' old version?
I doubt they made it worse given the history with the RT615- get the new one, save $16, run it and tell us all about it

New > old.
Proven? Yeah, the old one was proven to have some issues -- not for everyone but certainly for many. I have dirty pictures I could share...
Full size list is up on their site, and most are available on tirerack.

I order a set of the 235s for my ND Miata. Hopefully trying them out on Thursday. I haven't driven on the original RT660s though, so I can't give a comparison.

I decided to wait on RT660+, and picked up a set of Nankang CR-S. I'll try the Falkens on the next go 'round...

Looks like the delamination issue has not been eliminated...
I've been in contact with Roy throughout this whole endeavor. It's quite possible he's not running enough air pressure, despite what his pyrometer says.
I'm not a fan of blindly following a pyrometer.
In particular, when you are running a tire at the bounds of what it is designed for, and the RT660 is not really an enduro tire, you need to do everything possible to mitigate heat build-up.
For 200tw tires, optimal pressures for pace are a bell curve. There are typically a range of pressures that deliver the same performance, albeit with different feel.
For the RT660 in particular, it likes higher pressures than other 200tw tires. We run ours at 32 hot, which is a far cry from the 26 Roy is running.
I have suggested to him that he do some testing at higher pressures. Take two big swings at it to evaluate pace -- 29 and 32. Then run at the highest pressure that is not significantly slower.
In fact, he may find that the car is actually faster at the higher pressures, since he has been blindly following the pyrometer. In racing, the car that is quickest wins, not the one that delivers the best pyro readings.
He's also running those 245 rather pinched - a mix of 9's and 8's. That tire really wants to be on a 10.
As he says, other teams are making the tire work just fine.

In reply to Andy Hollis :
I also thought his pressures were on the low side, and his alignment specs are very different what many Miata racers use.
But, the tires are still failing in the same way. It will be interesting to see how this develops as we get more data from more users.

Hm. Falken lists the approved rim width range as 8 to 9.5?

Wheel width ranges, along with section width, measuring rim for said section, and OD are all specified and monitored by the Tire and Rim association. They are not "recommendations" or "approvals" by the manufacturer for any use other than normal highway driving. They are there to assure that a replacement wheel/tire combo will fit in a OE wheel well.
Have a look at every 245/40-15 tire's specs. All the same. Tread width is not a standard per size. Measured by Tire Rack only.
